So lately I've been looking through armory and have noticed that everyone uses Slow/Fast weapon combo when it comes to daggers. I can't help but think that there is something completely wrong with that. Hear me out...
- PvP damage is meant to be bursty.
- Healing bursty damage is much more difficult.
If you are Mutilate PvP specced with 5/5 in DWS, wouldn't you want your slowest (hardest-hitting) dagger in your offhand? If you put the faster (lower-damage) dagger your offhand, all you're doing is decreasing the difference of average damage between the two daggers, which would make your DPS more level, and less bursty. On the other side it would make sense to put your slowest (hardest-hitting) dagger in your offhand to benefit from DWS, which would actually manipulate your weapon combination and make your damage more bursty.
I asked a couple of rogues why they use Slow / Fast, and they all told me it was because it did more damage. The only reason it would do more damage is if you are using ambush, and I don't ambush that often in arenas.
Right now I'm using Webbed Death in my main-hand, and Sinister Revenge in my off-hand. I have had a friend sit in party with me and watch me beat on the target dummies testing to see which dagger in which slot makes me more bursty. We tested each several times, and each time it pointed to Fast / Slow.
If all of my information is correct, and there isn't something I'm not taking into account, then I think that we have a bunch of misinformed rogues. Anyone have any feedback or comments?

Wouldn't that still make it more bursty with fast / slow?

Can't you just go to shadowpanther and grab the 2 PvP weapons with the highest MAEP?
I think the best for PvP is slow/slow.
Its about the burst, plus you have wound/mind-numbing or crippling/mind-numbing or wound/crippling, so why have a fast weapon at all? I mean 75% of a fight in PvP you are not even in range of a the target unless they are locked down without their cooldowns, so poisons are more for the debuffs not the damage they do.
A rogue's guide to PvP would be a nice addition to this forum. hint hint.

From my somewhat low (but growing) knowledge of PvP, we want slow/slow. Look at the top arena rogues, most are using slow/slow. This makes sense because in PvP, your main damage is your burst, through instants like mutilate, eviscerate etc.
In PvE, fast weapons are desired for poison procs. Getting as many instant poisons to proc as fast as possible boosts your DPS. This doesn't happen in PvP. You're looking to get that mind-numbing, wound and crippling on the enemy, not reapply it constantly as fast as you can.
Slow/slow boosts your mutilate damage, and having the slow
est
in the MH will boost your single hand instants like eviscerate.
How the interaction between fast and slow daggers vs respective DPS stats is, I have no clue. My 2x Webbed Deaths seem extremely lacking in PvP at the moment, but they're all I've got. I'm not sure if taking a 1.8 speed 130 DPS dagger is better in fact, because of the top-end damage, or if the WDs would still beat them out.

The thing you missed is that testing on dummies isn't that great, though it can indeed be useful. For Mutilate, weak main hand is weak. Weak off hand is weak. Go with slow/slow or just be weak, =) It really
is
that simple.
