Next patch they will remove cooldonw on
Howling Blast
.
Here is a list of all the nice thing this will allow:
1) You will be able with
Epidemic
help to cast 3
Howling Blast
in a row every second rune rotation.
2) Another DK can put up
Frost Fever
and allow you to double
Howling Blast
on your first rune rotation.
3)
Rime
proc will be alot more useful.

Or if you are DWing.

Wouldn't Howling Blast do more damage against those with very high armor but little to no Frost resistance as well?

Sounds good, it may make blood presence more of a option for DW. Testing needs to be done though.

Obliterate's damage is still superior to Howling Blast's. Unless you're constantly out of melee range, you should only be using it when Rime procs.
Not if you are DWing or vs stuff with high armor.

Armageddon
with
Obliterate
with
Glyph of Obliterate
(version 3.0.8 doesnt reduce disease damage anymore) you would hit on the average for 1415
Now with
Howling Blast
would hit on the average for 810. That is with 0 AP. HB use 10% of your AP. So with only 3k AP, it would hit for 1510 damage.
But now, you have to factor couple things.
1) Target armor which would reduce Obliterate damage
2) Killing Machine talent which would make Howling Blast to crit.
3) Debuff on the target:
- Major/Minor armor debuff (would increase Obliterate)
- Physical Vulnerability (would increase Obliterate)
- Spell Crit Chance (would increase Howling Blast)
- Spell Damage Taken (would increase Howling Blast)
But Howling Blast will be superior Obliterate no matter what.

Y'know, every time they release a new change I keep having to find new excuses to stay unholy =(
I really dont want to give up the disease spam and pets, but i'm starting to cave here, blizzard really is leaving frost as the only option it seems. we'll see how things end up, i suppose.

@Grimmnacht: You have a very awesome weapon with crappy Attack Power. Of course Obliterate might be better.
But I am really not sure of your numbers. I did some maths an maximum with your weapon you should be able to do is around 4.7k

Weapon Damage is not supposed to be the X-X numbers wrote on the weapon?
