You know, if you've gotten bored of the game by level 46, maybe it isn't the game for you.
Sure, a DK may turn out to be a bit more fun then your Mage, but it's not like it's going to be a completely different game. It may turn out, that you play your DK, and find your interest still dwindling... Just saying.
On the other hand, if you really do want to try, then I suggest just sitting down and forcing yourself through the remaining 9 levels, which don't take very long to get. It won't be fun, but if you're determined to get your DK, then you'll "pull through" and get to 55.
Hope that helps.

40-60 was the most difficult stage of leveling for me, I tend to lose interest at that point too. As hard as it can be to reroll at that stage (which I did) it might not hurt to tinker around with a hybrid or tank/healer class. DPS classes are awesome, you get unlimited killing power letting you blow through quests...but...they can get boring too.
Whichever you decide, wish you luck :)

Honestly I can understand people experiencing apathy when leveling characters from 1-58.
Hell, I've leveled 4 70s and I now have a hunter that is 46, but here is the trick to avoiding boredom:
Stop playing.
Whenever I get bored of leveling my hunter, I take a few days off.
It's very very easy to leave the game for a few days and then be excited to play a few days later. You can get a few levels, maybe even ten, and then take another break.
That's just a tip, good luck!
Right now, My internet actually has terrible connection, and I really want to play, but I lag so much, I die all the time, so until after Dec. 7th-8th I won't be on WoW much which should get me excited to return.

You could be right, maybe it isn't for me. But I would really like to get a character to level 80 before I quit, whether it be a DK or a Mage. I payed for the expansions, so I would like to expierience them both fully before quitting.

Thanks, I've been thinking of trying a druid, or warlock. Or possibly a warrior. But I would like to stay with my Mage for now, so I can at least try a DK, to see if it is as good as it seems.

Go play Guild Wars. That takes no effort. That's why we play WoW.
It takes a little bit of skill and it gives us the authority to say hey Guild Wars kid, I'm better than you.
If you play GW. You know its true.

I have.. 3 70's, and an 80 right now. All of them I've leveled from scratch. And I can tell you without a doubt, that 45-55 was the WORST bracket of leveling in any game I have ever experienced. Ever. Every time I thought "Screw this game, I'm going back to my main", I managed to convince myself that it would be worth it in just a FEW more levels.
And yes, this game is SO much funner when you don't force yourself to play it. Take a break. Go for a walk, hang out with friends, do whatever it takes to walk away from the computer for just a little while. Maybe don't play for a day or two. Relax. When you come back, get back into the game. Because this IS a game. And if you aren't enjoying yourself, there's no reason to be playing.
Take your time.

Try doing some more instances, like Maraudon..
You are sending him to Maraudon to make the game more ENJOYABLE? ROFLMAO! After going into that hellhole with my first toon I've never been back. I had to pay two Level 60s 10 gold each to finish that thing and get that Princess down for the Thrash Blade after half our group left after one encounter with her and wiped.
IMO Maraudon is right above Uldaman as one of the worst instances in the entire game. Make sure you PUG it for an even more "enjoyable" experience.
Finding groups to go into instances at lower levels can be frustrating at best, horrible at worst unless you are in a "leveling" guild or a guild with lots of lower level alts. Most people are playing in Outlands and Northrend now leveling their DKs and 70+ toons. IMO you are basically on your own with regards to instances in "Classic" WoW.
My advice is to pick a class you enjoy and solo easily with and be prepared to move around and do quests that level you up quickly and easily. If you have a 46 mage I'd make it a Frost mage (easy to solo and survive) and concentrate on that one. You are within spitting range of 55 and with the decreased XP and nerfed mobs you willl level up quickly. Jump around so you don't get bored. Go to places like Searing Gorge, Tanaris and Feralas (and Hinterlands if you are Horde..a great place to quest in your 40s) and do the quests that have you kill 20 of this and 20 of that...Easy quests that yield a lot of XP and not a lot of work. Skip the instances. You'll be 55 in no time at all and can roll that DK and join the rest of the world.
Personally I like the Classic WoW but I wouldn't count on finding a lot of people to level up with. As for what class is "best"..that really is a matter of taste and opinion. It's like telling someone to eat a certain flavor of ice cream. You either like it or don't. If you like melee then you should stick with classes like rogues or warriors. If you like casters, then a mage or lock may be good. If you like to heal or like variety then one of the hybrid (paladin, druid, shaman) classes may be to your liking.
Since you seem interested in the Death Knight I'd say that you should stick with the mage for now so you can get to the point where you can roll a DK. You can always go back to your lower levels as a diversion if you grow bored.
It's not unusual to grow bored with WoW. When I got burned out on healing in raids with my Alliance Paladin I took a break and started leveling up my Horde Lock. The factions often have completely different questing area, especially in the lower levels so it's like a different game. There's no rule that says you have to play the same toon in the same place day in and day out or that you have to play WoW everyday. There are other games out there to check out too. It's not a bad thing to try them as well or just go outside and take a walk. ;)
