i know some gay guys in wow, think they do not talk about it in general/trade or to stranger.
Had a guildmember who told us he was gay after playing with him over 6 months. No big deal for us really, because most of us are really open minded and cannot give a damn aslong they do their job in raids and guild activities.
So most likely those who play wow who are gay do not talk about it as open as straight guys in open channels and conversation so they do not risk getting abused with verbal insults by jerks.
that is my guess.

Wow, this is a pretty old thread.
While I'm not a homosexual myself, I do happen to know a gay male who plays WoW.

The WoW community is obviously pretty much straight guys, with the occasional girl...
General chat is pretty anti-gay,
So I got to wondering.... Do any gay guys play WoW? Or do they stay away so they don't get treated badly by other players?
The military has this great saying and I think it would work for WoW as well... " Dont ask Dont Tell"
It is none of our business and we shouldnt be asking...
So a law that would force people to lie about them selves and if they show any integrity and let their guild mates (who depend on each other) know they will be discharged from wow?
I served this nation for 6 years and, defended the rights of others when I did not have the same rights, before I decided to leave do to DADT. And if it is changed I will serve again.

I'm lesbian, and that's not a big secret.
It has been mentioned in guild chat and probably most of my guildies know it, but generally speaking I don't see any reason to make a big fuss about it.

I like finding old threads. but most are from other patches and do not apply to current wow issues
actually ~1/3 of wow players are girls.
And yea my friend plays it and hes gay(funny note; yes, his main is a human pally).

I've been open in every guild I've been in. There has been on occasion the typical redneck jerk who is an idiot about it, but most people are either intrigued amused or just ignore it. Being the token gay guy in a guild is a lot of fun most the time.

Yes, we do. We pretty sparse, but seeing as we're only a minority that's a given.

There's no reason to bring up your sexual orientation in WoW, you might get scorned and you will get nasty remarks.
Now, I didn't say you can't, I said there was no reason to.
Well look at most guild websites. There is normally a thread where people share pic and discuses Real Life (RL). many people post pic of there families, pets, cars, (I have even seen a pic of one guy's pool)
there seems to be no reason to bring up any of that stuff either. Yet, we do.
Why?
Well, The reason is, we need to socialize with others; we are social animals after all. So how can a strait man not give away his sexual orientation when he post pic of his son and wife? A gay man can not post a pic of his husband, his child, and him with out letting people in on his sexual orientation too.
On vent a lot of people will say that there gf or bf is wanting them to call it a night or something to that effect. You can not play wow with others and not be open about your sexual orientation. Many strait people bring up there sexual orientation on vent or in chat without knowing or thinking about it.
As far as offensive language, IRL I got in a few fights with homophobes (most people understand but a very few just can not comprehend the ideal that love knows no gender). Me being x-military helps with that. In wow I have not really seen any thing. If there were, a dual would be in order flowed by a GM complaint. And if it happens in my guild /kick.
The other day I seen a thread here on wowhead that thread name was “gay maintenance pis.sing me off”
I asked the OP to change the name. but a moderator stepped in, changed the name and locked the thread, before the OP could do anything. (locking the thread was not necessary but, thanx for changing the name)
So yes, people (strait and gay) need to let there sexual orientation be known. and know we will not let people "gay bash" on wow.
