Keep RF (righteous fury, improved) up, use SoR/JoR for short fights (less than 30s) and JotC/SoR/JoR for longer fights.
keep eye on DPS/healer, taunt with RD (righteous defense) or place a BoP on the over-aggroing party member.
spam consecrate from level 20
that's basically all you can do at level 20

I tanked from level 15-70, so I'd say it's ok, not too hard if you just keep an eye on threat, you can always BoSalv the DPS if you feel the need.

usually faster = better because it's more consistent that way, since you're human, maces and swords are about the same

should last you a while imo

Here a couple macros I find particularly useful while tanking.
Righteous Defense
This will cast Righteous Defense (our only taunt) on your target's target. Very useful for single target tanking (bosses.) Righteous Defense is our only single target taunt, so you need to have this hotkey'd for instant taunting. I use Mousewheel Up, and Mousewheel Down for the next macro...
#showtooltip Righteous Defense
/cast Righteous Defense
Blessing of Protection
Blessing of Protection can only be cast on a party member and having a chain of conditionals could lead to unwanted persons getting the buff. For this reason the macro does not check if the person is dead or even in the party, but only attempts to cast it on a target if the player is in a party. This is important if the player is in a raid.
#showtooltip
/cast Blessing of Protection
SO there you have it. Two simple macros bound to two simple hotkeys (such as mouse buttons or mouse wheels) that allow for instant reaction on your behalf to gain or re-gain aggro from a wayward mob.
Low level pally tanking will be inferior to druid or warrior tanks simply because of threat generation. You don't have holy shield, and your consecrate isn't as powerful as if you had some spell damage items. You may struggle with AoE and tanking until about level 35.
Stick with it!

That's been built into RD for a long while now lol.

If it is, I'm not seeing it. I still have to use a macro for it. Basically you want to be judging Seal of Righteousness on the focus target, while hitting / consecrate-ing the other mobs to keep above healing aggro. Higher levels you'll add in Holy Shield.

but make sure there are no other shield users in the party because they will roll on it.
If you have a defensive shield user other than you in the group, then you have 1 too many tanks

Sorry to necro an old thread, but I've got some relevant questions. I've been running a low level Prot Paladin alt, duoing with my wife's mage. Currently at Level 30. The goal here is not to grind levels quickly, just to quest and keep the mobs off the squishy mage. My only tanking other than this is on a Warrior.
The problem I'm having is that I simply don't have much to do. I hit Seal of Righteousness, Consecrate, and Judgment of Righteousness, and then just wait... usually by the time JoR is off CD, the mobs are dead (these are mostly equal level non-elites). Is there more I should be doing? Obviously I use taunts and buffs as appropriate, but most of the time there just seems to be nothing to do, kinda boring, actually...
It's been a while since I played my War at this level, but I seem to recall there being much more to do - constantly pushing buttons for this or that ability. With the Pally, it's just push the 3 buttons and wait...
Am I missing something?
Armory:
Korfin
. No heirlooms since I don't want to level faster than the mage. Probably throw a pair of the heirloom healing trinkets just to reduce downtime since we don't have a party healer.
lvl 31
Spec
You do not need to have one point in protection to be a tank. Indeed, youre a better tank under level 40 fully in Ret. Bless yourself with Might. You need to have a slow two hander and Seal of Command. Run in 4-8 mobs -> consecrate -> Hand Of Reckoning a far away mob -> She Blizzards them to death while you Seal of Command them into the ground.
Lvl 40
Spec
Now you can be an actual tank. Your mana worried are over. Bless yourself with Sanctuary and always keep Holy Shield up. Consecrate and Seal/Judge Righteousness. Now you should of found yourself a blue sheild and 1hander. The reason a sheild matters now is becuse of Holy Shield. Without that spell, trying to tank with a shield actually will do more damage to you at lower levels in the long run than simply killing it twice as fast with a 2H. That changes now that HS supplements your damage while keeping you alive. At this point you can take one two to three times the number of mobs, or the same about of mobs except being elite instead of normal, than you could before.
You may want to put of Seal of Light and judge it with big pulls or in dungeons with pulls of more than 3 after youre 40. Before that Seal of Command just does too much damage and is going to keep you alive through sheer killing power.

Quest's advice is spot on, as usual. Just remember to keep Righteous Fury up.
I'm currently levelling a Warrior tank with my girlfriend's rogue, and I'm finding a similar problem to you - mobs go down too quickly for me to do much - charge, devastate, and suddenly, the mob drops dead due to a Sub-spec'd Ambush crit. Pull more if you want to make things more interesting.

It's better at higher levels. Think about what you were doing on your Warrior at 30 - running up (possibly shooting), Thunder Clap, possibly Rend, then sitting and waiting for Revenge procs so you didn't blow your rage. Not worth it to Sunder on trash. No Devastate, no Shield Slam, no Shockwave. You *might* use Concussion Blow in a pinch, or if you glyphed for Revenge, you could drop an extra Heroic Strike here and there.
Just think of Consecration as Thunder Clap, Judgement as Rend, and once you hit 40, you'll get Holy Shield, which you can maintain 100% uptime on. Plus, instead of shooting, you can open with Hand of Reckoning / Exorcism.
It's as interesting as you can make it for yourself. With Consecration / Holy Shield / Judgement, that's one ability every 3 seconds or so. It's not terribly different to low-level Warrior'ing.
