Since wowhead was made an official World of Warcraft fansite, wouldn't Blizzard not want you to be supporting discussion about one of their competitors?

Free speech. And besides, being a World of Warcraft fansite just means that they approve of the site. It doesn't mean they get any kind of control over it.
