i want to defend arcanity on the point of molten core's wording.
it really is ambiguous and depends on whether we should read the tooltip as:
"Your Shadow (spells and damage over time effects) ..."
or:
"Your (Shadow spells) and (damage over time effects) ..."
is 'shadow' the word that describes the 'spells and damage over time effects' or does 'shadow' only describe the spells and not the damage over time effects.
also (recklessly weighing in on a point of contention that i'm far less concerned with), if i go destro with an imp for extra damage, i think i'd be taking soul leech and impr. soul leech to keep the pet's mana up.
it's all up in the air until we can get our hands on it but if the imp does a good job as additional damage then i'm sure impr. soul leech will be important.

Do shadow DoTs not fall under the category of "shadow spells"?
well, i suppose that 'spells' would suggest successful casts (including direct damage eg, SB) while 'DoT effects' would be ticks.
while your reading of it makes more sense, i do think that blizzard's tooltip reputation leads people to look for ambiguities and want evidence to solve them.
so, the question is, do beta testers see immolate proc molten core? if you say that they do then problem solved ^^

Then don't drop out of English class. "Shadow spells and damage over time effects." It really couldn't be more plain that Immolate procs it.
to me that is still a tiny bit ambiguous. English adjectives can be ambiguous like that where other languages are not. It can be reasonably read as
<Shadow spells> and <damage over time effects> or
Shadow <spells and damage over time effects>
When spoken the emphasis and context would make it clear which was meant.
For this tooltip i personally am thinking it is the latter.

that's what i said... though, i must admit, kaitain makes it much clearer ^_^

well, firstly, that whole exchange was hilarious.
secondly, does anyone have a reliable quote from someone in the beta regarding immolate proccing MC?
i've just had a hunt around the interwebs and come up with supposed beta testers saying both yea and nay but none of them sounding particularly reliable.

not sure i agree with you much here.
with the change to make untalented corruption an instant cast, even though it doesn't scale with crit, it may be worth casting to proc molten core... either freeing up your curse or stacking with CoA for more frequent proccage. all depends on how good MC actually is
conflag is NOT the reason why immo is a good dot for a 21/40 lock to cast. using conflag is a good way to drop your dps. backdraft looked like it would make conflag a definite addition to a pve rotation but early reports make it sound not so great.
the nerfs are bad and destro is the hardest hit. i raid as destro currently and enjoy it (i liked aff but wasn't sad when destro became the clear leader). i was really looking forward to playing destro in 3.0.2 but now i'm only really jazzed about affliction >.<
