The same reason babies cry, cats lick themselves, and Richard kills everything...
It's natural behavior.

By cutting off communication between the two factions, letting you kill each other mostly everywhere (even on non-PVP servers), and pitting the two groups against each other in battlegrounds creates a natural feeling of enmity.
This is precisely the reason why I dislike dueling and arenas so: I can face teams from the same faction as myself (and even the same server). It makes it feel all so... staged... in a bad way.
Even though the fact that we're playing a game most of outdoor PvP (and to some extent BGs) don't feel as staged, because it somehow fits with the story and character of the world.

in my case i played my first bgs on alliance and i was at 19 when i did.
i watched 5 people die to twinked undead rouges and decided i hated the horde then and there. i still do and now, i kill horde every chance i get.
That's funny. For me it was twinked Night Elf hunters.
But the essential life lesson we should take away from today's extra-special episode: my hatred of the Alliance is perfectly rational, while yours is a symptom of a twisted, degenerate mind.

Hate is such a powerful word, I mainly despise Alliance because of:
1. Dwarfs (short, fat, ugly abhumans)
2. Gnomes (lots of posts about general dislike)
3. Humans (horrible combat noise, look like retards - especially bald males)
4. NELFs (elves lol)
5. Space Goats
Why I like Horde
1. Undead (best /lol in the game, coolest animations)
2. Orcs (best dance in the game and love their lore)
3. Tauren Warriors (lol wtf gnome warriors)
4. Cool cities, good music, no trumpety feel good crap
Its nice to play a faction that is evil, dark, and menacing… the alliance to me are just a bunch of pansies

Most horde race are chaotic while most alliance races are lawful, but it's not about evil vs good, rather barbarians vs fascists. (and i say that playing alliance myself) I really don't see how you can see the alliance background and just say they are goodie-two-shoes or whatever. They expand, colonialise, and exterminate the ones in the way (or just ostracize them).
Which is why i initially wanted to start horde as i came from the Imperial faction in SWG and had already done the "colonialist" thing for 2 years, but friends decided otherwise.

All hate results from ganking, case dismissed.
PvE servers.
Case reopened for investigation.
So you head to that level 20 zone and find a level 70 of the opposite faction who has taken pleasure in killing all the quest givers. Then he proceeds to follow you around and tag everything you need for the one quest you managed to snag before he killed the quest giver. Then when you manage to kill one, he flags himself and stands on it so that when you try to loot you end up auto-attacking him. Then you're flagged - now your dead - and you get camped for the remainder of your playing time.
Quote Dinodynamo: All hate results from ganking, case dismissed.

I mostly dislike the Horde because they're ugly, exceptions being female Tauren, and male Bloodelves.
I guess you're a big fan of 80's hair bands because thats how male blood elves look. Most of the armor models have their navel showing. I guess it's better than the anorexic, 14 year old cheerleaders that are known as blood elf females. Human female are pretty close to it as well. Any woman that looked like that in real life would be in a coffin.
I'm not sure which alliance races you think are not ugly. Dwarves? Gnomes? Nightelves with their huge ears? There are definitely ugly looking humans.
I guess you mean Draenei. Of course they're a horde race that got switched over to alliance so that the allys could have a cool looking race and the horde could have a "revealing" race that people think are "attractive".

WoW is one big social experiment in motion. We are told from the beginning to pick a side. We cannot communicate with the other side in any way, shape or form. Our human nature kicks in and recognizes a threat in the form of competition for resources.
Yeah good point there
I like the fact that there is another person behind the keyboard that you cant communicate with who also sees you as a potential threat.
One thing ive always found is its some stupid gnome that always tries to gank or a humal ret pally. I remember once a hemo dagger gnome rogue attacked me on the isle. I was on my prot warrior 16k health in my tanking gear. Poor little fella barely scratched me and I devasted/shield slammed him to death. I got a /cheer from a nelf druid who watched.

Not quite. I've seen a fair amount of (civil) conversations on Exodar between Horde and Alliance via "/me" since I started playing a couple of months ago. Mostly craft courtesy (eg, asking if somone killing beasts was going to be skinning or not, or if they were clearing an area to get at a nearby mineral deposit/herb bush, etc.), but I've seen idle chitchat here and there. Of course, that's between unflagged players....
