This thread shows why I only play with people who I know won't be a jerk, and only with my guildies. I rarely do PuGs, and even then I don't just go with anybody.
If they're using a language unknown to me, that's a no. I'm not a grammar elitist, but that's one of the few indicators I have.
I've tried out a private server before playing the official one (in fact, its the reason I even got addicted to WoW), and it was awesome. The sense of camaraderie was so strong that it felt great to be part of the community. There were only 70 players or so, but it felt more than adequate. When they know that the people they're playing with is all they've got, they tend to be nicer than average.
I still don't know whether having more played in a server is a good or bad thing. But I'm enjoying my raids, so I'm not complaining much.

A similar quote is:
The nail that sticks out is the first to get hammered.
While I understand what you're saying, this is the kind of thing you want to practice if you want to be a good follower. Leaders do stick out and don't mind the challenge of getting hammered on occasion. In the same way, if you never speak up you'll never be noticed. This is fine for some and not fine for others since the game (with guilds and raiding) can involve a "leadership" aspect.
The problem lies in the know-it-alls you speak of and their obsession to be right, even if they have no idea what they're talking about. If it were true that "He who speaks, does not know." in this game, no one would ever complete a raid. End-game progression does take leadership in most cases.
Just a little food for thought.
