WotLK Glyph Ideas
Return to board index
Post by
Wanderingfox
So it would seem that Blizzard is finally getting around to implementing glyphs for all the classes, so I guess now is as good of time as any to get the ball rolling on discussion of possible rogue glyph ideas.
First off, some background information on the glyph system for those of you unaware of how it functions. Each character gains a new tab on their spell book which brings up the
glyph interface
. This interface allows you to add 6 (possibly 7 through an inscription-only ability) glyphs to your character.
There are 3 types of glyphs: Major (gold border), Lesser (small border), and Minor (no border), and each character gets 2 of each to work with.
Major glyphs change the mechanics of your spells (ie, changing how a spell functions, adding additional targets, etc). Lesser glyphs adjust the mechanics of your spells, but not to the extent of major glyphs (ie. increasing the duration or damage of a spell, adjusting its range, etc.) Minor glyphs provide small cosmetic changes to your character (changing colors, different animations), or adjust very minor aspects of spells (damage type, etc.)
Take a look at the
currently Implemented glyphs
for examples of currently planned glyphs.
I'm going to ask that you only post constructive ideas here, as the official wow forums are a cesspool of idiocy, and the majority of us do not have access to the official WotLK forums. Thus, this is our best place to constructively discuss ideas.
Latest additions are in bold.
Major Glyphs:
Glyph of the Hunt - Allows you to track humanoids while stealthed.
Glyph of Brutal Strikes - Increases the damage done by Backstab and Mutilate when hitting stunned targets
Glyph of Furious Blows - Your Blade Flurry hits an additional target
Glyph of Blurred Vision - Your Blind ability causes your target's vision to become distorted for a short time after your blind fades.
Glyph of Venomous Strikes - Your attacks from stealth have a 100% chance to apply both of your weapon's poisons.
Glyph of Expeditious Retreat - Your movement speed is increased by 25% while under the effects of your Vanish ability
Lesser Glyphs:
Glyph of Blood Thining - Increases the duration of Rupture and Garrote by 3 seconds and Hemorrhage by 5 seconds
Glyph of Concussive Sap - Targets of your Sap ability become dazed for 2 seconds after breaking Sap early.
Glyph of Deep Gouge - Your Gouge ability no longer breaks from damage over time effects
Minor Glyphs:
Glyph of True Shadows - Changes your appearance while stealthed (Maybe something like a shadow-form type look?)
Glyph of the Swirly Ball - Returns the "Swirly Ball" animation to detect traps (The list would just not be right without this one)
Glyph of Distraction - Changes the appearance of Distract
Glyph of Sulfurous Poisons - Changes the damage type of your poisons from Nature to Fire
Glyph of Arctic Poisons - Changes the damage type of your poisons from Nature to Frost
Glyph of Mystic Poisons - Changes the damage type of your poisons from Nature to Arcane
Glyph of Bleak Poisons - Changes the damage type of your poisons from Nature to Shadow
I'll try to keep the main post up to date with new ideas. Also, if someone with beta forum would like to relay the ideas, that would be amazing.

Since I'm really not good at coming up with a name, I'll make the suggestions here, you come up with the names:
Blade flurry now hits an additional target for a total of 3
Blind causes the target to weave when walking for 1 minute after the blind debuff has expired (kinda like when you get drunk and can't walk straight, also having the blur effect would be a nice touch)
Put up a smoke flare in the middle of the Distract targeted area (flare should expire after 30 sec)

Not sure if putting a smoke flare into distract is really useful at all, I'd think it would also probably be a hindrance more than anything. Regardless I added a "change the appearance of distract" one to the list.

Well, it would be a cosmetic effect, not affecting actual game mechanics. It could be useful in raids if you want to show someone where to stand, etc. How the graphics are displayed is really irrelevant, it could be like the hunter flare (looks wise).

You know that
Detect Traps
is passive now, right?
Glyph of Gouge: Your Gouge ability will no longer break from (your) damage over time effects.
Glyph of Cheap Poison: Your Cheap Shot ability will now automatically apply the poisons of both your weapons to the target.
Glyph of Mutilate: Increases the damage done by Mutilate by 50% against targets immune to poison.
Glyph of Swift Vanish: Increases your movement speed while Vanished by 30%.
Glyph of Cheap Vanish: Your Vanish ability no longer requires a reagent.
Glyph of the Taekwondo Master: Your Kick ability becomes much more flamboyant.

Glyph of Cheap Vanish: Your Vanish ability no longer requires a reagent.
That's already implemented.
Vanish no longer requires the reagent Flash Powder.

Glyph of Chaotic Poisons - Changes the damage type of your poisons from nature to chaos
Extreamly OP and certainly dosnt belong in minor glyphs
That's probably true, I'll change it to change your poisons to a specific different poison (ie. glyph of freezing poisons, glyph of burning poisons, glyph of archaic poisons, etc.)
this should also include mutilate
You are correct sir.

about the whole psn thing you may consider changing the damage it deals to frost or fire or w/e but it remains a poison other wise it would be immune to poison dispelling effects hence OP
Well ya, it's just changing the damage type from nature to <element>, they're still poisons. The idea was to give a way for rogues to avoid fights where nature damage is immune, or less useful (Hydross for example).

i think a glyph like that (changing damage type of poison) will be the best way to put mutilate at the same level with combat for raids.
the new talents are very good, but when bosses are immune to nature damage, ur mutilates will do less damage in every case, and falling behind any combat spec.
and, ofc, a want to play mutilate.
