But as for the Guarded by light talent I think thats more situational maybe,
Situational...Like multi-mob trash pulls, boss fights, AoE grinding...Those situtations?
This talent works like reckoning in reverse; it rewards you for stacking avoidance.

3 points in reckoning is enough to let it proc in fights.

3 points in reckoning is enough to let it proc in fights.
a 6% chance to proc on all attacks that aren't parried, missed, or dodged. Meanwhile, you could have used those 3 points for 9% more strength, which would benefit the new Hammer of Right and Shield of Right talents, both of which are controlled, and will generate more threat than a possible reckoning proc.
Or, you could have more armor and 3% more healing from Imp Dev.
Or, you could have 3% more parry.
Or, you could have JoJ, which will help you in boss fights more than Reck.
Reck is worthless at level 70. It will continue to be worthless between 70-80. It is, was, and always will be, a talent that gets worse as your gear gets better. Before anyone posts a formula attempting to prove otherwise, just keep in mind that ultimately, you want more avoidance as a tank, and more avoidance means less reck procs.
The only reason Reck was left in the talent trees for WotLK is to act as a warning for potential group members:
If you see a paladin with any points in reckoning past level 70, do not group with this person.

Um, that's no indication whatsoever. Reckoning is fine in 5-mans where the bosses and trash don't hit hard at all compared to a string of parrys thanks to reckoning on a raid boss. Also, it helps a lot with leveling and AoE grinding.
Just because someone has points in that talent that has its situational uses doesn't mean you shouldn't group with them.
Those situations are gone at level 61 once WotLK is released. The 51 point talent is superior because it costs 1 point, is controllable, and scales up instead of backwards.
As I said, past level 70, reckoning becomes completely irrelevant. There are now more damage-boosting talents to take that will benefit your protection spec more than reckoning, whose benefits will increase as you level.
In 5-mans where the bosses and trash don't hit hard, Seals of the Pure gives you more damage output than Reckoning. For AoE grinding, GbtL reduces the mana cost of consecration by 50%.
Currently, there is some use for reckoning while you level. When WotLK is released, the new talents will make it even more useless at level 70 and beyond than it already is.

Ardent Defender saves your ass more than you think. I know for a fact it's helped in my raids (one of our tankadins had an addon that said something every time AD kicked in).
It's like a passive last stand, and the more health you get, the earlier it kicks in. 5/5 is a must if you want to tank.

I think it's humorous that if you take a look at synonyms for Reckoning, one of the first ones is "Retribution". Perhaps that's the tree this Talent should've been in the entire time, Blizz? :P
Move it to Ret and change it so that when you take damage there's a chance that your next swing will be a guaranteed crit, or a guaranteed proc of SoComm (that doesn't count against the static PPM), and then maybe it would be worth it.
That, or change the name to Guardian's Wrath and give it a proc chance based on someone else in the party/raid taking damage.
Then
I could see it maybe being worthwhile

You both make very good points and i agree with you, but is it really honestly needed? I'm no great number cruncher I'll admit that now but It's not like were constantly out of mana, its a good talent and very useful but I think its just one of those things left to preference, If i was planning on aoe farming all day I would spec it, If i was going somewere like Mount Hyjal; or similar? I would spec it. 5 man heroics? I dont see it as worthwhile in there as something lik seal of the pure (expect in places similar to shattered halls and such) just my view on it
I'm not dissmising it completley it really is great, but bear in mind in mind you might not be tanking waves and waves of thrash rendering it not as useful as possibly something else.
Well, the whole discussion is moot now anyway; the talent has been changed to reduce mana cost of consecration, holy wrath and AS by 30% with 2 points. Whether or not theorycrafting or mathematics support getting the talent in its original form, now it's a no-brainer to take it. I can't think of a situation when consecrating for 30% less mana wouldn't be worth the 2 points.

Hallejuah, Ive seen the light, you've converted me, indeed its great but tell me, what would you take points out of my spec to spec with it?
(And dont say improved judgment Already gone over that)
Oh and keep the feedback coming, its really good to see some useful posts on a forum
:)
Personally for tanking I'm thinking that
http://wotlk.wowhead.com/?talent=sVZE0tIx0dMgqeRGo
with 4 points left to customize is a good
generic
tank build that should perform well at all gear/content levels.
I think in general we will be writing off the 5% parry talent(/cry) in Wotlk becuase of the mucho goodies in the prot tree
