Blizzard really learned from their mistakes when they made the Blood Elf and Draenei starting zones. Questing is so much easier and more streamlined in the new zones, as compared to Dun Morogh, or Durotar. It does seem like there's a lot more to experience in the new zones, as opposed to "kill these boars." From the very first quest in Azuremyst Isle, you're experiencing the greater story of the Draenei.
As for Outland, they did a lot of things right, but I do wish they had toned down the sci-fi a bit. Just because Outland is technically in space, doesn't mean it has to immediately gain futuristic technologies and the like. They would have been perfectly fine keeping the technology levels the same as original WoW, while keeping Outland as diverse, original, and fun as it is now.
I'm hoping that Wrath of the Lich King will return to WoW's roots a bit. I don't know about anyone else, but I certainly miss seeing undead in almost every zone.

The 5-man instances in TBC, are in my opinion, pretty enjoyable, and the heroic-mode option is great too. Now i've only played TBC for about 3 months, so so far, i've only cleared Karazhan, which i think is a pretty great instance too. What i miss, is the environment i used to hand out in, pre-TBC. As a level 70, im hanging out in Shattrath at the battlemasters, or occasionally in Orgrimmar. I really miss places like Silithus and EPL, and the awesome world PvP, that was always ongoing, no matter what time it was. The world PvP added a great deal of diversity to the game, and it was fun marking the horde territory in these areas.
But, well i know it's never gonna be the same and that's good, cause without new challenges this game would become boring very fast.

you like the old Wow for you are not casual gamers.
I could barely thing to go to Molten core because i didn't have (and still i haven't) enough time to do a raid. My idea of playing is log on, play for a couple of hours and then log off. The new instances are perfect for me, shadow labyrinth is beautiful and Botanica is funny. I like the way they are going to manage the time of the players. The instances are shorter and can be done even if you're not that much "specialized" (i mean a normal shadow priest can heal in all the instances but the heroics).
Yes... i miss the fact now when you are in shadowmoon valley or Sharrath city it's like you're in a spacestation on mars... and paladins seem more power rangers than old horsemen full of honor. Maybe they'll tune it in the future when WOLK will come out but it's still k for me ^^

I'll just hop on the bandwagon and agree with alot of people here. But one thing I hated about BC were flying mounts. They don't do anything except allow people (that payed 1k g) to go instances, and destroy world pvp. Being attacked? Just run away and get on your flying mount! I also I hate how its impossible to raid a town in outlands (and almost impossible for the majority of towns in azeroth now) and instead of getting "OMG NOW WE CAN DO AIR RAIDS AND STUFF LOL" we get: Flying NPC Guard hits you for 2031 dmg (crushing), you fall off mount, you die. Blizzard might as well put some invisible bubble around each town blocking opposite factions or something.
Other then that I enjoyed lvling in Outlands, alot of quests were alot different then the usual kill x number of boars (course some of them are: kill x number of alien boars). Not to mention the quest rewards were actually GOOD. But I have to agree all of this HIGH FANTASY stuff is going abit overboard. But the next expansion coming soon looks like it will have a dark gothic appeal which reminds me alot of the warcraft 3 FT undead missions. Also it will be focusing more on pvp since theres going to be a zone for NOTHING but pvp which is cool. Only thing thats abit dumb is the Death Knight.

I just thought that I would bring this post to the top. Interesting how much people did not like the transition into TBC, I wonder what their thoughts are of the other 2 expansions. I started playing WoW in TBC, so I do not know what Vanilla was like, my husband said it was great and you had to do things with people on your sever, no LFD. So my new not necessarily off topic for this post is...How did you (people who read forums and played during Vanilla) feel when this transition happend?
P.S. Reading old forums are fun =)

Reading very old threads on the forum can be really interesting but the discussion in this thread is so far from being relevant today that posting to it now can't help but come under the mention of "necro" in the .
It sounds like you want to have a separate discussion to the one in this thread to see how people feel about this in today's post-Cataclysm WoW and I think that that would be an interesting topic but I would urge you to create a thread and link to this one as a reference rather than bringing back something so old to the front page.
