For the last time people, the ONLY "welfare" gear is the PvP Rare reputation set.

Then if that's your opinion, why do you care if people bash you for admiring your easy epics?
And cry more. Seriously. S1/S2 takes nothing more than
mindless
time to get. If you consider that an accomplishment, you have a horrible life. (And on that note: $5 says everyone arguing for the validity of welfare epics live in the Midwest or an equally boring place.)
Im pretty sure a mindless person wouldnt be playing World Of Warcraft Nef >_>

While one CAN get BoJs in the SSO care packages for doing the dailies one must still to the dailies themselves. Plus the drop rate in the care packages is very low. I got seven BoJ grinding to exalted. So in the main getting badges to buy the badge gear requires that either I am part of a 5 man that downs bosses in a heroic dungeon or I am part of a raid that downs bosses. No bosses - no badges. Therefore NO relation to just showing up and hiding in a BG until I get honor enough for S1/S2. Equating badge gear with welfare epics is a ruse and not a very good one at that.

Okay guys lets face it, you're all argueing a stupid concept
.....by the looks of things both pvp and pve take quite a lot of time, and if it were messured by frustration pvp sets would be the most allmighty of all epic item sets but, it's not. In the end it's up to the individual to decide what they think is easier to get.
PVPers are always going to say PVE is free stuff
PVEers are always going to say PVP is free stuff
So make your own descion and stop argueing about it, it's clear that neither side will change their minds. So choose and keep it to yourselves :)
End
/agree
I have played both PvE and PvP (admittedly not arena) and I have to say, PvE is not as easy as you think...one foolish misstimed mistake and you wipe 24 other people who all get very angry that you have wasted more time, have to clear the trash again, and you have raised their repair bill even higher.
On the other hand, I have tried my hardest in BGs, topped the damage and healing meters (not at the same time) and know that when it goes well it's as "easy" as a well coordinated bossfight, and when it goes badly you want to take a machine gun to the idiots who chose to enter the same BG as you without understanding the basic concept of PvP.
From what I hear about arenas, it is less predictable, but not necessarily less straight forward, so long as you understand the concept and how to play your class.
In short, there's no such thing as wellfare gear. It
all
takes time, skill, understanding of tactics, group work, and a good deal of patience.
The only kind of "wellfare" is the afk leech in BGs who should be reported, or even better, banned from PvP for a week!

rep pvp gear should be greens and s2 should be blues imo
And Raid epics should be grey... /sarcasm
Does the color really matter? No one cares about your e-peen.

I'd have to disagree and say that S1 and S2 is welfare. It does not require any skill whatsoever to obtain.

Final edit: At the highest gear levels pvp and pve should be best gearing for that game aspect and so less than ideal for the other. But it has yet to happen across the board and may never. I pvp with some pve gear because of the big (for my spec) damage increase and accept that I will have less resil and stam than ideal. And I pve with some pvp gear for same reason, more damge than the gear you would expect to want at the cost of redundant stam and resil
Are they not already kind of like that? At least for rogues they are.
PvP gear lacks hit, and we need 300+ to do well by the end of Kara. PvE gear lacks resil obviously. Gear can be used for the 'opposite' type of play, but it's less then ideal and if you ask me, they already are rather segregated.

(i agree with you most of time, and i have to dmit that i enjoy the few points we disagree on.)
a note about badge of justices.in my post i pointed specifically to the lower cost (first wave) of badge gear. i feel that these are very much part of what i consider "welfare epics". why?
b/c KZ gives 22 badges a run, is puggable, and can be done with zero gear and not much more skill(if any) as long as you're not a main healer or main tank and the group has at least 3 other competent dps. so what does the scrub do when he just hits 70 and doesn't want to put in alot of time, or just hit 70 and is looking for a boost? he hooks up in the KZ pug gets his badges whether he earns them or not, and profits. with some of the rewards being as cheap as they are, you'd only have to get through 1 1/2 runs to pick up something. so yes, the baby end of the badge gear are very much just like the BG's. join a pug, get in the instance, pwn or suck, or /follow, ?, profit.
Thanks for the compliment! The enjoyment is mutual.
The problem with your argument is finding a PUG to take you when they are in epics and you are a freshly minted 70. One of the consequences of badge gear is that most (not all) of the pug raid leaders are purple happy. But lets say that you find one. The odds that a group who can 9 man Kara are going let you /follow beyond maybe the first boss is pretty small. Even if your contribution to the raid is minimal you will at least have to actively play to stay in the raid. You will have to make an effort. Kara is after all the "training" raid intended to bridge 5 man to 25 man content. As long as you have to actively try I don't think that you can equate BG afking to being the new man in a Kara raid.
