Hey guys,
I'm a total newbie to WOW, started playing in July. I have a level 110 Frost Mage with my artifact weapon almost maxed out for the 2nd time at 52.
I started playing this game with my boyfriend who started at the same time as me, he is a Destruction Warlock. I recently downloaded Recount as a add on, and when we do raids and dungeons together I notice he does double the amount of damage my Mage does.
Is this because Warlocks are more powerful? His artifact weapon is the same level as me? I'm not sure what I am doing wrong. I also hate that as a Frost Mage I have no self heal abilities as he has one.
Is there a better way I should be dealing damage as far as combos go?
I usually go Icy Veins, Frost Bold till my Ice Lance is full, and then a Glacier Spike.
I also do Frost Orb > Blizzard > Blizzard > EbonBolt > Flurry
Those are the 2 combos I find does the most damage, and I throw in a Mirror, here and there. But generally in Dungeon's I'm always the DPS with the least amount of damage. Sometimes Tanks even do more damage than I. This is getting embarrassing, this is my first post here. Most people in my guild I have reached out to say Mages suck, but I don't want to switch my class at this point in the game. So I'm asking my fellow Mage fans for advice. I been even contemplating switching to Fire Mage...

You're kinda playing frost really, really wrong.
There's probably too much for me to touch on, but start by reading this.

You can also might wanna try Thermal Void instead of Glacial Spike, since it's a tad easier. Then read this.

For some basics, when you have a brain freeze Proc (the little icy thing in your UI near the top) you want to ALWAYS follow that up with a flurry and immediately after flurry throw an ice lance assuming of course you just casted a frostbolt, do this without delay there's only a short window of time for this so you must act quickly.
When you cast ebonbolt, it will always proc the brainfreeze so you follow that up with flurry->ice lance too. NEVER hard cast flurry ever. You only cast flurry when brainfreeze is up :)
Flurry puts up a debuff called winters chill so that treats the target as frozen, with our shatter ability you are almost guaranteed to crit once you ice lance that target if you're at what is called the Shatter cap You want to focus your crit strike to about 33.33% or as close to it as you can, then you can safely bet your shatters will always crit.
The above links from Nickseng will provide a lot more in depth on frost mage from spec, gear and gems to rotations and legendaries and anything you could ever possibly want to know about Frost mages.
I will tell you though that warlocks AOE is superb from Frost mage almost always at the same gear levels. This is not saying that frost mages aren't good at aoe, we are especially if you have some legendaries like the belt (Zann's journey) it stacks up to 5 times and increases blizzard damage. Frost Mage however excell at single target damage.
Good luck fellow frost mage.
