One of the benefits of being a 'premium' user is the removal of the advertisements. I logged in to the site today and was greeted by a nice huge pop-up banner at the top with a 'Deal of the Day' advertisement. These types of in-your-face banners have, to date, been used to announce some sort of in-game event or special site announcement (e.g., contests).
Please, please, please don't start using these banners as billboards for advertisers especially for your premium users.
Thank you.

Seriously. This isn't cool. I pay money to NOT see ads. This is a slap in the face.

I agree, I was quite surprised when that ad was shown. Closing it seems to have hidden it, but now I'm afraid that will also hide the announcement banners that Calesta mentioned.

When ads started to be insane on this site they added the 'premium' pay to remove them feature. Fine, done paid for, no more insane lag for the website and of course possible viruses from the horrendous ads popping up. To continue to put adds up AFTER YOU PAY? Completely unacceptable, get rid of this BS asap please, thanks.

Guess they are going the Hulu route, where you pay for premium service and get to view ads as well. Kind of makes me wonder what the point in paying for premium is then. Might as well just cancel and go back to adblocking everything I can.

Hey everyone!
I'd like to provide some clarifications here...
The 'Deal of the Day' announcement banner isn't your typical kind of ad. It links to Amazon affiliates, is entirely controlled by our staff and is meant to be as relevant to our community as possible. It's a brand new system and as such we're still ironing out the details. We weren't looking at this announcement banner like it was an ad, we were looking at it as a way of informing all of our users about awesome deals on Amazon for things that were likely to be relevant to them (like today's Samsung SSD). This announcement is also able to be closed completely until the next one is made so it's a lot more flexible than your average ad. We're doing this to pursue alternative revenue streams so that we can be less reliant on the remnant and programmatic ads you see around the site. Site announcements are ran separately from 'Deal of the Day', so if you're a non-Premium user and you close it don't be concerned because you won't miss anything important.
That said, it was a oversight that this was displayed to Premium users at all. We have tags that can be used in announcements to selectively target users. It should have been used for this type of announcement but was simply overlooked. We'll be more diligent about tagging them appropriately moving forward. The current 'Deal of the Day' has already been modified so
it should no longer display
to Premium users.
I apologize for any perception that we were trying to pull a fast one on our Premium users, that simply wasn't our intention. We very much appreciate all of you and your feedback! Thank you.

Addressing this separately: Premium (formally Patron) has been an option on this website for a
very
long time and was not added recently. Last year we did drastically reduce the price from $5/month ($30/year) to $1/month ($9/year) and renamed it Premium (the original name sounded too much like Patreon).(##RESPBREAK##)2##DELIM##Sas148##DELIM##
