Hi, i'm pretty new to the rogue class and I'm being told by some to stick with duel swords for DPS and others say to use daggers till i'm higher level.
For instance i'm currently trying to complete the horde quest "Mission : Possible But Not Probable:
http://www.wowhead.com/?quest=2478
I'm using Duel blues with good dps, the problem is i can't ambush due to the fact i'm using swords, apparently in this situation they would be best.
So, my question is, regardless of the inability to use Ambush or Backstab is it still worth sticking with swords for DPS throughout from 1-70, or use daggers earlier on for skills till higher end swords give better +crit, or...?

hey dood..
use a addon called outfitter it will switch your weapoon of choice (dagger) when in stealth that way you can ambush or backstab them.. once ur out of stealth it will switch back to swords automatically.. its a really neat addon
i use daggers for two reasons
1. ambush/backstab (sometimes i backstab after a kidney shot if they low in health in hopes to own em and i use ambush for those who are still sap'd i can switch to daggers with one button)
2. i have dagger set for dungeons that a lot of casters in them. i switch to daggers to proc my poisons faster ( wound and mind nubling is what i usually put on them for instances like this) then i jsut switch to swords again
the only problem with this is that your gimpin your dps but that doesnt matter because your bringing benefits in replacement...
i still get called in for dungeons because of how i play!

as you can see my dagger skill level is close to my sword and i am spec'd for swords..
can't wait to hit 70 already lol!
goood luck

When leveling, don't worry about ambush. Use garrote for your opener followed by slice n dice then SSx5 and eviscerate/rupture till dead.
As for the quest, I just had my kid brother help me as payback for all the quests I helped him on with my hunter. So all I can tell you about that is, make sure you pick pocket the goblin.

I'll try this, but I find that I REALLY like ambush with my lvl 29 (macro - pickpocket/ambush). If I'm fighting mobs my level that opener alone gets 'em to 50% usually (sometimes more if I crit). Other openers seem to draw out the fight. Maybe I'm not good enough?
I guess dual swords with better dps (I am using dual thornspikes) would be better?
Not sure......

I would recommend using garote and sticking to swords also. Stronger specs for leveling that way.

The main reason combat is "better" for leveling is sustained DPS (as opposed to more burst and then lacking in longer fights with other builds) as well as Blade Flurry and Adrenaline Rush to help when you get too many mobs. It just has a lot of utility for the solo questing rogue.
But if you are really set on, and enjoying, a sub build using Ambush then stick with it. Some people would rather try different builds and enjoy the game in different ways than just leveling the fastest. If your build starts to lack in performance down the road, you can always respec.

Okay, still learning here.
So if I respec along the lines as suggested and get some good swords (although the only blue item swords readily available appear to be BFD - the globe quest- and are LOWER dps than my current thornspikes. How could this be better? I thought it was all about DPS and stats with weapons for rogues??
HELP for a relative noob. Please help me understand how slower and less dps = bigger damage.
Current info - lvl 29 specced mainly in subtlety, build is in the armory - character "trecheriss"
http://www.wowarmory.com/character-sheet.xml?r=Elune&n=Trecheriss
I'm wanting to hang out at 29 for a while to do some battlegrounds, then get back to leveling in PVE world. Am I to understand that this might not be the best thing to do? i.e. spec a character to stay at 29 forever as a PVP junkie, and build another for leveling only? Is there a "jack of all trades" route that is good?
Thanx!!!!!

do what ive done for most of my rouge experience, have one sword and one dagger, normally dagger would go in offhand with it being faster but for most quests and instances where backstab and ambush can be handy put the dagger in mainhand, im level 56 and ive just left my dagger for another sword =D
