hi every one, hope evereyone is enjoying WOW just wanted to ask if anyone else thinks the mage class is under valued, thoughts and opinions would be a welcome distraction for me at the moment, I find the mages because of their poor armour, suffer tremendously from melee situations brought about by waiting for spells to cool down, anyone have any thoughts on this.. could either the armour be vastly tougher or should spells cut down on the cool down, after all a warrior/paladin or demon hunter can just melee away to their hearts content and in plate armour.. us poor mages.. well I look forward to any replies NASTY or constructive i dont mind at all :)

from your other post that was locked:
all that said, after playing solid for 8 years and having 6 toons dragged kicking and skrikeing from level 1 through 105 levels following the story line, doing the quests, and not just sitting in some cave killing a boss over and over and over and over again to "level" (none of this "jumping to level 90 or 100 stuff) except starting my Demon Hunter who only appeared with Legion, and not knowing other toons like priests etc I can only speak for my Druid, my normal Hunter and the 3 different mages, and my Demon Hunter, I'm here asking why and to wonder why Blizzard software writers have chosen to make the Mage so vulnerable, sidelined, being tweaked out of favour, with virtually no defense and just a single attack mode, defense due to very limited CLOTH armour and shielding that only lasts nano secs, and while attacking once your main flurry of spells are let loose, your left there waiting patiently for the cool downs to stop while half a dozens varying npc's pummel you to death for the umpteenth time, my mages spend more time dead than they do alive.. always on the back foot... limited spells to cast while running backwards, (CANT DO THAT WHILE MOVING) is always on my screen. Mages do most of their killing while back tracking, and if you back track into the path of another npc, your dead... so due to casting times and then cool down times, mages are as vulnerable as hell, unlike warriors/paladins/death knights/demon hunters... those I see all the time.. waltz into an area I'm fighting 1 npc, and take out half a dozen.. and then run off no doubt to wipe out other npcs elsewhere. The frost minion is pathetic, the arcane blob is even more pathetic, mirror image might as well not exist just like a fire mage minionless and anyway doesn't help all that much but then they're gone and oh! Ill just die AGAIN while I wait for their cool down to stop, that is mage non existent defense...and the fire mage well he's on his own anyway.
I absolutely agree with you! I came to rant and rave, but you said it all for me. I am so sick of being dead more than being alive! (love those mountains to navigate from the rez) If I can pull one at a time, from far away, then maybe, just maybe, I can get them down before i've pulled another. Its so frustrating, To tell you the truth, I've have played so little WOW lately, mainly because my mage has been so un-fun to play. Just lately i got on my DK and, ooh boy, 3 mobs at once, no prob! Then i get back on my mage and &*!@! There he is dead again. What would it take to make him better? Frost shield that absorbs more than half a hit. Frost nova that doesn't break from a little tickle. Any self healing at all (look at warriors, they have tons) All the spells having a chance to do real damage. The charts were showing mages as doing high damage in dungeons. Great, but get out in the real world of questing and such, and with no shielding nor healing, they don't stand a chance.

I can understand the frustration, but the beauty of the mage is understanding how to play the class to its strength.
Yup, if you're too close to your target, you're going to get smacked. Yeah, cool downs suck, but I'm sure you know there are abilities and artifact traits that can lower those times significantly. This is all having intimate knowledge of your class, and then your spec. I main a frost mage and off-spec fire.
Kiting is what makes mages great. Not just back tracking, actual kiting. We have roots (frost nova), CC's (polymorph), incredible mobility (blink/shimmer), and interrupts. There should be no way an enemy in almost any situation can get within 15 yards of you. You're a glass cannon yes...but the key word is cannon. On the broken shore, with the exception of world bosses, I can nuke mobs before they ever get close to me. Dying is uncommon for me, and usually only happens in raids when we wipe (and I am usually one of the last to die, after the plate classes).
Now I would love to have plate on my mage, but for obvious reasons it ain't gonna happen. Play the mage as it was designed and you may just go mad with power.
