Why is the 'today in legion' now embedded at the top of the news page instead of a sidebar? This isn't a good change, it's just a waste of space in the news feed.

This was addressed in this News Post>
Site Updates: Wowhead News Alerts for Discord, Layout Improvements
:
Today in Broken Isles
is now below the most recent news on the front page; previously it was quite far down on the page and many users did not realize we displayed Mythic+ Affixes or World Bosses.
EDIT TO ADD:
Looks like they are collecting feedback about the site changes on that post.
Also, we're curious what you specifically miss from the sidebar - we looked at analytics and not much of the sidebar was generating traffic, so we kept the most popular parts and reorganized them for more visibility.

The main reason for the layout change was this:
We've made some changes to Wowhead's sidebar to allow us to permanently remove some advertising units from the site: two units from database pages, one unit from other areas like news and guides. This should in turn help pages load faster and reduce the risk of noisy ads that violate our Terms of Service.
By having an ad more visible in the sidebar, even when scrolling, that lets us remove other units and maintain revenue. People were really keen on us having fewer ads when we had some problems over Black Friday, and the way for that to happen was to revamp the sidebar. So unfortunately we couldn't keep Today in Broken Isles in the sidebar along with an ad, since it took up so much vertical space - you wouldn't be able to see all of it.
We've received a lot of feedback in Legion which implied people didn't know we had Today in Broken Isles as well. Eg "it would be great if you could add Mythic+ affixes somewhere!" when it was already there, just farther down the front page. So we decided to repurpose the parts of the sidebar that were getting clicks, and remove the parts that seemed inactive.
