Was kinda bored and starting doing some theorizing on different end game raid builds for Paladins.
The main idea for this is that you are well above the defense cap to be able to sacrifice the defense skill.
Obviously the downside will be the loss of the 2% in One Handed specialization, but I think it makes up for it in Improved retribution aura.
Thoughts?

First off, this should probably be moved to the pally forum.
Second, you are assuming that you are defense capped but the defense skill also adds to your dodge, block, and parry. Therefore you'd be wise to put 5/5 in Anticipation, even if you are at the defense max. Also, I would remove the two points in pursuit of justice and place them in improved judgement or possibly vindication.

Over on the warlock forums we have a phrase for talents that seem really nice, but merely pull points away from the core talents of a build.
"Shiny"
Improved Retribution Aura is a shiny talent. It looks so pretty and sparkly over there on the Ret tree, and people seem to reach for it all the time. But going that deep into Ret both takes away from the core talents in Prot and really hurts your threat rather than helping it. It certainly doesn't come anywhere near the threat generation the extra 2 points would do in either One Handed Weapon Specialization or Improved Judgement.

wow,, 1500 armor, that would give me roughly 1% physical damage reduction..
It would?
DR% at 15k armor vs lvl 73 = 55.64%
DR% at 16.5k armor vs lvl 73 = 57.98%
and which pally uses devotion aura for tanking, almost none.
Unsubstantiated claim is unsubstantiated.
They know that 1000-1500 extra armor doesn't add much to avoidance,
True. It doesn't add anything to avoidance. Then again, no one is saying it does.
i repeat that so maybe you can understand now.
You've repeated an as of yet unsupported assertion. We got you the first time. So where should those points go that will be a superior option for tankadins?

Actually, that's not the same build as he listed at the beginning, but close enough for hand grenades and nuclear weapons. It gives us a point to start having a good discussion.
From the default 49/12 you've swapped 3 points from Toughness for Pursuit of Justice. The swap amounts to:
3% spell avoidance vs
~2.3% physical damage mitigation
You'll be reducing your ability as an AoE tank and be less effective against physical damage-based bosses. In return, you have both of the spell damage reduction abilities. Under the right circumstances, it could be a good trade.

That's the build I'm seeing in the first post and the one I'm commenting on when I refer to the one listed in the first post.

That is what I refer to as "default 49/12".

2% reduced damage in exchange for 13 more damage, but only when you get hit? Does not add up.
