If you want to manually weave your shots, you can try out Quartz. It's a timer addon that i find very useful. Then try to use Steady Shot as much as you can in between your auto shots. I don't know if it's an error but earlier tonight my lvl 68 hunter came out top off the dps charts in SV during first and last boss (With a partially Kara geared Shadow Priest in the group, that's the weird part) . Kill Command will help your pets dmg alot in dungies, it'll also help its aggro when you solo.
Also try to use trinkets and abilities alot. I use 2 macros most:
#showtooltip Hunter's Mark
/cast Dash
/petattack
/cast Hunter's Mark
This will assure that you set the hunter's mark when you send your pet in.
#showtooltip Steady Shot
/cast Rapid Killing
/cast Bestial Wrath
/use Trinket 1
/use Trinket 2
/cast Steady Shot
That way you are sure to use your cooldowns whenever you can. If you need to hold back then either cast Misdirection on your tank or just start auto shotting until the tank has decent threat.
I know that my macros are just very basic atm, and i'd appreciate it if someone can 'upgrade" it a bit Maybe a line to prevent the "Item is not ready yet" line.
As a BM hunter, my shot rotation is Auto, Steady, Auto etc.. try to maintain Scorpid sting on bosses if you're the only hunter(or the others just don't want to do it). Use Misdirection as much as possible. Maybe not that necessary on thrash but at least you won't have to wait for threat to build up. Tanks will greatly appreciate MD on bosses tho.
Also i think that it's important for hunters to use our CC well. Try to put traps down early, so that you can re-trap if the mob breaks early or just to chain trap more smoothly (ie not taking dmg). There's a Trapping sticky above. And the thing i remembered the most was to lay a trap between your healer and the mobs just incase, even if you don't have a trap target.
Hunters may be the easiest class to lvl, but it is a challenge to play it right. Honestly i find doing dungeons with my mage alot easier than with my hunter atm.
