overwrite the Arcane Shot slot with it
That was my original idea too. Just make SV Hunters replace Arcane Shot with Serpent Sting (with all the perks AS already had, like being the aim of the TotH proc, etc... of course). Deal, Done.
I'm actually in the process of doing something like that. I don't know if I'll name the skill Serpent Sting but that would definitely be a lot smoother design-wise.

Serpent Shot?

Serpent Shot?
Ehhhhhhh. For some reason that doesn't have a good ring to it. I'm thinking of something along the lines of Acid Shot or the like, but I might just keep Serpent Sting (it's cleaner that way, at least).

Yeah, I think Serpent Sting has a nice sound when spoken off.
By the way, since we've already derailed from the OP of this post AND the new expansion is comming tonight, I'm declaring the 6.0 changes to be ending now...
What a Long, Strange Trip It's Been
for us hunters!

Lost my post because for some reason I got signed out.
So the thread might be done but I'm going to follow up on Lone Wolf because it's worse than I imagined mechanically. I mean the thematic is still a problem but now it does tie into how problematic it is in terms of being a usable talent. Since it forces the Hunter to dismiss their pet, the following happens:
Blink Strikes is useless. This isn't the worst of it but I'm surprised Blizzard forgot to account for this considering Grimoire of Sacrifice doesn't have this problem. However, this is also a problem with Blink Strikes itself since it's largely a talent meant to be taken by BM, which benefits the most.
Spirit Bond doesn't function. This pretty much makes the talent useless but the impact is far worse since the self-sufficiency in PvP and soloing is important, not to mention the talent is usable on PvE encounters (unless you have reliable healers). Considering talents like Soul Link continue to function during Grimoire of Sacrifice, this is also a bit of an oversight.
Master's Call cannot be used. This one has significant implications on the viability of Lone Wolf in PvP. CC might be pruned but there's still plenty of slows, after all.
To conclude, I'm kind of mindblown by how Blizzard forgot that Hunters are a bit reliant on their pets in some regards and forgot to account for them. Warlocks don't have this problem when using Grimoire of Sacrifice. The pet utility they "lose" is accounted for by allowing the Warlock to inherit one of their demon's skills (usually the one that provides the most utility), not to mention all of their talents are functional whether the talent is taken or not. This just screams inconsistent and poor game design.
Also, on another note, Camouflage breaks if Freezing Trap activates now. This used to never happen but now it happens consistently. Really big problem for soloing, especially since sometimes there's no option to pre-emptively trap a mob and run past.

Hmm... I haven't got into level 100 yet (enjoying too much the leveling part of Draenor to rush out there) so I can't really give my feedback on Lone Wolf. But my initial thought was that it'd give you enough DPS to balance the loss of utility, isn't that the case here? I mean, I can afford losing some utility in PvE to get more DPS, but if that's not the case... then it's a broken talent.
And by the way, feel free to keep comenting on all Hunter issues that are related to 6.0, I'm just not gonna do the patch changes roundabout like before. ^_^

Focusing Shot is just too damn good at the moment and even if the talent gave better numbers, it's still mechanically broken. It's extremely bad design to cover oversights with huge numbers like that.
Also, on another note, turns out they did forget to account for Grimoire of Sacrifice + Demonic Servitude (lets you summon Infernals and Doomguards as permanent pets) - sacrificing something that powerful should really give you some serious punch.
