I met my best WoW friend and fellow warlock raiding in our guild in BC. We've played off and on at different times since then to move on in our real lives, but now we're back to being guildies and more. ;)

The guild I'm currently in, which me and a couple of my siblings switched servers for, actually does have a BBQ held once a year somewhere. While I'm currently not able to go, it's comforting to know that it's possible. As for a great friendship, there was a friend I made back int WOTLK by running dungeons with him. We've since occasionally lost then regained contact over the past several years. We're still in contact today, and it's great to talk with him.
I was in a family friendly guild back in WoLK and raiding pretty often with the same group of 25 folks. Forged some good online friends. Got my girlfriend to play and she raided with us and also had a few couples in the guild. Her and I wanted to meet some of the guildies so we drove to Washington D.C. where 3 of them were based. Made some RL friends that weekend and are still in contact with them in game and in RL.
I made a friend through WoW that I really liked and always had a great time chatting together. He was the guild leader and used to make time to chat with guildees, he was always willing to help with whatever if it was a simple mount/pet run or a transmog run, he was always up for it. One of the coolest people I ever met, got a lot of crap thrown at him in trade chat though and yeah sounded like he had some issues going on it RL, but don't we all? He didn't judge me nor I him. He was funny and one of the only GMs that ever chatted and joked with me, he made that guild the best I'd ever been in no matter what the jackals in trade thought. Sadly it ended when I hopped on one morning to find that he'd kicked almost everyone out of the guild over a dispute during a raid attempt. Honestly, because I liked him I wanted to give him the benefit of the doubt and understand that maybe there was more to it, but that was by far the best guild I'd ever been in and I hated that the entire guild was punished for something that went south and I lost a friend in the process. I will always miss being a part of Not That Geared on Uldaman under Grace, he was a great friend and an awesome guild leader to me, I've never had half as much fun in any other guild since.
It all started by understanding an unusual inside joke. I was strolling through Stormwind one day just going about some minor business I now forget the details of. I happened to notice a toon named Cephas as he ran past. Recognizing the name from the New Testament as a name for Peter the Disciple of Jesus, I send him a whisper and said something along the lines of, "Hey Peter, how's it going?"He responded with a reference to the name of my character, also from the Bible, and we discovered that we were both Pastors and got on quite well. We ended up forming a guild together for a time, which still exists but now has only 2 members...our two original inactive characters. Not all friendships last forever, and as far as I can tell he no longer plays WoW. This was of course before the days of Real ID, etc, so we have lost touch. Still a good story though IMO.
I have a lot of online friends who play WoW, probably more friends through WoW than from College or Highschool.WoW is a great game for meeting people! I've always loved how social people are in this game. Way different than other games i've played.
I actually met my girlfriend of a few years through World of Warcraft. We met when I was uqesting in Durotar and saw that she was struggling with the quest in the Skull Rock cave (this was in WotLK). We kept talking after she finished her quest, and I guess the rest was history! I never met her in real life (don't judge me! D:), but it was a very nice experience for me because for the first time, I actually experienced kind of what it was like to be in a relationship.
I would say I have gotten a great friendship from WoW, but I have gotten so much more. In 2008 I met my husband through a guild named Forged From Fate on Kael'Thas. I was offering via guild chat to run lowbie characters through lower and BC dungeons. He went with me on many adventures to BC dungeons. Me on my only character a ret pally and him on his rogue. To be honest at first I thought he was just some 12 year old, but when I downloaded Ventrillo to be able to talk with the guild on raids (FFF was a horrible guild for raiding btw).Anyway, I downloaded Ventrillo and heard my husband's voice for the first time...I was shocked he wasn't 12! Instead he was a 35 year old living in Tennessee and I was 24 living in Idaho. We would hang out via in game and chat when we were in game. We would go fishing together for hours in our fishing game outfits and we would explore the WoW world together. We ended up talking for a few months online via WoW, MSN, video chat, and hours and hours of phone calls all through the night until the sun came up. Which actually the phone calls racked up a bill of $900..but that's another story. After talking for a couple months we decided it was time to meet. In May 2009 he ended up getting a plane ticket up here to Idaho. I went to the airport with a friend to pick him up in Washington. I was so nervous and my heart was pounding when I saw him. We hugged and went back to Idaho to get him a hotel. I hung out with him at the hotel and the next day we went on a 2 day camping trip with my friends. After the camping trip we ended up renting a suite and relaxing from the heat and the horrible sunburns we both got. Sadly after a week of him being here he had to go back to TN. I just remember driving him to airport again and being extremely sad and crying all the way home. As soon as he got home we started to talk via WoW and phone again. Another month went by and we kept talking about moving in together and starting a life together in Idaho. He asked me to marry him during a guild dungeon run, Sethekk Halls and of course I said yes. I still have the screenshots on my computer. He left everything behind in TN and packed 3 large totes and shipped the UPS to Idaho. He came back to Idaho in June and at the airport he had our rings. We got married on July 4th, 2009 and have been married for 4 years and we have a beautiful 2 year old boy.My husband and I still play on KT to this day. ...and that's my story of how about how a great friendship started in WoW.
I've met alot of fun a nice people on WoW. But there is one person that i met just a couple of weeks into playing that I still play with today. when i was questing in Silverpine forest near the graymame wall i got a little over my head with pulling some adds. I was about to die when some mage from off screen started helping me. after i was safe we sat and talked for a while. turns out she was a new player just like me and we decided to add each other to our friends list. after a little while longer though one of the sons of arugal sneaked up on us and killed both of us. after leveling up to 70 it became a pastime for us to go back to that spot and kill the son of arugal for fun. that was back in 2007. We still play to this day, as well as playing other games such as Diablo 3, Hearthstone, Portal 2, and so on, as well as keeping contact outside of the games. She has helped me through some hard times including the passing of my step father. From this experience I have seen the connections a person can have with someone else, even through just a digital space.
Met a guy 6 years ago. He lives about 800 km. from me. I've played so many co-op and mmo games with him, that I consider him as a brother that friend. And he's going to be my best man on my wedding.
I was doing a dungeon back in BC on my hunter, and started to chat with the party members. The other blood elf, except me, added me, cause we were on the same realm. :) We started to play together, and then, after some months, we met, and had sooo much fun. :DShe is a great friend, and I wish I could see her more often. :3Also, she didn't believe that I also was a girl first, haha!
I met "cow cow" about 6 or 7 years ago. I was a fresh 70 (this was in BC) and he was an officer in the guild. Very long story, but the short version is 7 years later he is my best friend. He has followed me through server transfers, and faction changes. He has been there for me through horrible real life breakups and learning about my father's death. I wouldn't trade all the gold in wow for my cow cow. :)
It's always nice to put faces to the voices and avatars. A few of my Canadian guildies met up at a central location and had some beers and dinner. Was a good excuse to make a road trip and have an adventure.
I have met a lot of great friends over the years online.I met my wife of 15 years on a MUD.I met several friends playing DAoC.I've several good friends from WoW although I've unfortunately never had the chance to meet them in real life.
I had met many great people throughout the game over a number of years. Some I had come quite close too, never quite met any of them but mainly because they lived far and wide. There was actually one who lived about 20 mins away and we had been playing together for quite some time; but through no coaxing would they ever actually meet up. Alas I server transferred and most of those friends are long and gone from the game, still do have one as a Facebook friend as we've kept in touch through the years....still been awhile since we talked though, life moves on and it truly was nice getting to know all of them.
I've met up IRL with some former guild mates and have had some great times! We still reminisce over the glory days of vanilla.... ;)
I've met some great friends playing WoW. Some I've gotten along so well with, we're friends outside of the game as well - facebook, exchanging numbers and texting, skyping, playing other games together. I haven't met all of them in person. They're are all in other states and none of us can really travel, so we just hang out online for now. Still, there's three I'd really love to go see, but that will happen when it can happen :)
I changed guilds and found an old friend/sports teammate who I had no idea played WoW and reestablished the friendship. This friendship led to me meeting my partner (and father to our now 5 year old) at a guild meet up to celebrate my 21st birthday. Now we're 7 years older in a new guild where many of our guild mates meet up outside the game and we're currently planning our first guild meetup. While many people leave or join the guild, there's a strong core of about 8 people ranging from 15-35 who have stuck it out together for about 3 years now and it shows when we all get together on mumble.
