Memoirs of a Casual/Hardcore Raiding Guild Leader
Return to board index
I formed a guild on Deathwing-US during the week of WoW's launch, back in Nov. of 2004. Over the course of the next eight years, I grew this guild into a raiding machine that walked a fine line between both casual and hardcore. One year ago, on 1/5/2012, we officially stuck a fork in 25m raiding, a decision that was difficult--but inevitable.
I've taken up blogging about it, which has mostly been to get things off my chest, vent, and to reminisce about what an incredible learning experience it was--and how it moved from being simply just a game that we all played online together, to a real daily exercise in people management...something the media often overlooks, and what skeptics often fail to recognize when dismissing the effort involved.
If you are interested in taking a peek into the trials and tribulations of what went into building and managing a guild (and have tons of time to kill), the memoirs begin here:
I do not profess to be a genius / expert GL;
I made a lot of bad decisions along the way
. But, I also like to think I learned an awful lot about people, and how to make a team jell. A few people have discovered the blog on the official Blizzard forums as well as Reddit, and seem to enjoy it, so if you're bored during maintenance, give it a look.
