Of course, Stephen King actually prefers the ending to the movie so....

Would you want this ability? And -- if this became reality -- would art retain any meaning whatsoever?
To the first, probably not. The capacity to make everything perfectly tailored to me would reduce any sort of spark, interest or thrill in discovery. In any story, there would be no such thing as consequence if I could cheat even the ultimate conclusion (death fits perfectly). Some points in a story can also be completelly paradoxal at first, but fit the story in ways that one does not expect. There is quite the difference between grasping a full story or understanding it up to where you are.
That ability as a constant would be challenging for me. One single story has potentially infinite ramifications, and while I do think it would be an interesting experience, I still think it would severelly diminish the effect of consequence and completelly ruin our perception of life (with how heavilly one is influenced by what they see or hear). People could lose themselves on imaginary worlds with SERIOUS ease and nothing but actual life experience would turn the tide. Why would I even think about death when I could influence anything I hear to non-lethal? Even the death of my friends could be cheated. They would live in the pages of whatever I felt like at the time.
As for the meaning of art, different contexts call for different artistic styles. One defines artistic vibes through History; if we check two artistic pieces from very close dates, they will probably share common traits that two pieces from completelly different times. But there would always be those able to use words in ways that our imagination cannot, or surprise us, and even if we DID change the course of a story, there would be the easy "but what if?..." should we follow the original path, should it be a true piece. Art would still be in those gifted enough to print their thoughts in ways we couldn't, and there would still be those willing to appreciate their skill. It would simply be even more subjective than it already is, but far from destroyed.

Art has pretty serious consequences on life. I remember watching a documentary showing an EEG for a guy who acquired savant like capabilities after sustaining a head injury. His favourite constant was Pi and his least favourite number was 6. He claimed to know Pi to a large number of places. He was exposed under experimental conditions to a playback of Pi. His EEG remained pretty flat. Then the experimenter started replacing random numbers with "6" intermittently and his EEG spiked to correspond to each time that occurred. I suppose something similar occurs for false notes or blurs or whatever for people into those fields. We can imagine the correction, but we acknowledge the reality.
I think we'd derive more pleasure from the "corrected" versions, but a lack of consensus would eventually cripple society. If there were a fix for that I'd readily endorse it.

The Industry Standard
You are inside a very peculiar rock club: For whatever the reason, the manager of this club demands that all his musical acts must take an extensive IQ test before he will allow them to perform. Tonight there are two acts on the bill, and they coincidentally share the same band name, The Industry Standard. Both bands are alleged to be awesome. Sadly, you only have one hour to spend at the club (due to another obligation), and the intermission between the two acts is very long (so you can't watch both). You ask the manager which version of The Industry Standard you should watch. "I have no idea," he says. "But I will tell you this: The first band had the highest test scores I've ever seen, anywhere. Each member of the band is technically a genius -- one guy scored higher than Marilyn vos Savant. Conversely, the band playing second had some of the worst scores ever recorded. One member might actually be illiterate. However, I halfway suspect they were all drunk and mocking the entire process. I couldn't tell for sure."
Which version of The Industry Standard do you decide to see? Why?

The first for me, but only because anyone who's trying to make a living and shows up to their venue drunk doesn't deserve to earn their wage from me.

IQ test are, generally speaking, nonsense. Certainly in almost every way in which people discuss them on a day-to-day basis. They can be useful when carried out by trained psychologists for a specific scientific test but they measure "intelligence" which is something that can be defined how ever you want and they do so only against peers your own age and from your own culture only.
That said, I have an interest in esoteric rock (see Alt-J recently. Love 'em!) and I would assume -
is it irrational assumption or educated guess?
- that the former would be more likely to give me that than the latter.

Though call to make. Having said that, I don't base my decisions on who has a higher IQ score, as that has nothing to do with good art.
One of the best musicians and composers I've ever known (Ali Primera) was illiterate for a large part of his childhood, and as an adult he never had above-average intelligence and never even completed college education. The man was still one of the finest signers and writers ever seen in Venezuela, to the point that his music has been declared national heritage.
So I don't judge art by how allegedly "smart" the artist is, but by whether or not their work can stir any sort of emotion in me, as a person. I don't celebrate, or berate their choice of lifestyle (READ: if they're that sort of artist that lives a pure life style with no vice, no sin, no crime, or if they are a total wreck, constantly drunk, drugged, ect) None of these are any of my business. I simply judge their work, and whether or not it has the potential to inspire me, or move me.
I will judge their lifestyle if they harmed others, since I have a very VERY strong view on rape, child molestation, and domestic abuse, but if the artist had none of these, then I really don't care if they lived 99% of the time drunk or high. As long as their art is good. For example, Bob Marley was almost always seen smoking a joint of Marijuana, something I highly disapprove, but while I don't approve any form of drug use, how he chose to live his life isn't my business. And his music was and still is pretty damned awesome.
This applies to any form of art, from writers, singers, painters, poets, ect.

First off, I would smack the manager for having an intermission between bands that lasted longer than 10 minutes. Talk about wanting to piss off your customers.
After I was finished smacking the manager, I would talk to some of the other patrons to see if they knew anything about the bands. That will tell you more than anything about a musical group. After that, I would make a decision to probably leave and go watch a movie or something because with a name like The Industry Standard, it sounds like a crappy house band or trance group.

Shane McGowan performed and as far as I'm aware, continues to perform drunk. The Foals remain decidedly sober. I don't think being drunk precludes one from performing music I'd like to hear, nor am I immediately enticed by a classical education. I'd probably go home and listen to aggy wrr wrr wrr stuff.

I was replying to something Pikey said, and then I had to leave the page and when I came back it was gone. I'm pretty sure I was only quoting it though. I hope I didn't mess anything up :/
In response to your deleted post, Pikey, I am aware that it wouldn't be a good thing. That was kind of what I was pointing out- that people who already have either a strong fantasy interest in, or even an obsession with, a fictional character or set of characters, might not be able to handle the power to direct them in any visual scenes they wanted.(##RESPBREAK##)8##DELIM##ElhonnaDS##DELIM##

I combined his two posts into one (since they were consecutive) and I guess he went and removed the part addressed to you afterwords.

I didn't remove anything. I merely meant that a whole life spent in front of a screen is nothing to be wished for, and that those that choose to do it would not be people I'd like to meet.
Right. Exactly.

The Dream VCR
At long last, someone invents "the dream VCR." This machine allows you to tape an entire evening's worth of your own dreams, which you can then watch at your leisure. However, the inventor of the dream VCR will only allow you to use this device if you agree to a strange caveat: When you watch your dreams, you must do so with your family and closest friends in the same room. They get to watch your dreams along with you. And if you don't agree to this, you can't use the dream VCR.
Would you still do it?
Why the inventor didn't make a dream DVR or Blu-Ray recorder, we may never know...(##RESPBREAK##)12##DELIM##Sas148##DELIM##

Some of my dreams would be really strange to watch with my mom watching but not a problem I would just drug everyone in the room to make them fall asleep and then watch them.

The Dream VCR
Nope. Wouldn't do it. Most of the dreams I have and can remember are screwed up to me, so I can only imagine how it would look to the outside world.
@pikey
I actually have set up a drum kit, and ran sound at a local music festival for the last 5 years during the spring. I go out to major music spots every weekend. I was also in band in Highschool. We had 10 minutes between sets to get everything off the stage once a band was done, and the next bands gear set up. Each band should have its' own roadies (or themselves if they aren't that big yet) to pack their crap once it is offstage.
All that being said, why are you getting butthurt over a question about 2 bands that don't exist except in a question on a forum?
