Max and Cregga rushed into the guardroom. Though Cregga slowed and looked around the room Max continued going straight to the door. Grabbing the handle, he opened it by degrees until less than a sliver of light shone through. He peered through this hairline crack and into the night choked town.
A beckoning hand called the others to him. "Okay," he hissed, "we're clear. But stick close to me and the shadows." This he said to the room but looked to the troll. "I'll cast a dampener on us that should help us blend into the surroundings, but it won't reach far."

Elsa Wolftongue
Darkshire, Duskwood
Elsa took a moment to register who it was that was speaking to her or rather, appeared to be speaking to her, for she could not hear the words over the sound of her own pounding heart. "Get away from me!" the pickpocket shrieked, shoving Peter back roughly.

Maximilian turned to face the other two. His eyes closed, followed by some swift cutting gestures and whispered, spidery words. As the young mage spoke, the air about the three seemed to darken and dull, as though a dark pall had fallen over every source of light around them.
At length, Max ceased speaking and opened his eyes. Peering about, he nodded in satisfaction.
"Come on," he ordered opening the door.

Caught off guard, Max fell back and onto the floor in surprise. He looked up in wonder to the thief.

"Well. This is unfortunate," Wilhelm muttered, hauling Peter up by the scruff of the priest's neck.

Character:
Maximilian Totentaz, Cregga
Location:
Duskwood
Like a pair of thieves, Max and Cregga began to slink through the night choked streets, creeping around corners, keeping their backs against the walls, and avoiding every sort of light lest it betray their presence to the eyes that seemed to stare out of every hollow window and shuttered door.
At the front, Max suddenly froze, Cregga bumbling into him from behind.
"Shh!" came the hiss from the darkness that was Max. Warned, Cregga strained her ears, soon catching the sound of conversing voices from around the corner and down the street, and moments later the tell tale glow of an approaching lantern as well.

Elsa Wolftongue
Darkshire, Duskwood
Elsa gave Peter a hurt look, ignoring Wilhelm, and fell back on her natural defence mechanism: anger. "You betray me for that -
that b@#*&
- and now you expect me to act like it's alright?" she demanded, on her feet.

Kalina Brayton
Westbrook Garrison
"No $%^&!" Kalina yelled in reply and did exactly what the gnome said; with a quick glance over her shoulder she saw the crossbow, which was enough to give her plenty of motivation to boot. She'd rather not get shot twice in the same day.

The two guards thundered past the cell, one pausing briefly to take aim with his crossbow.
"Kalina. Smoke. Screen!" Gregg shouted, running as fast as his short legs could carry him, with the heavily armoured Nimrod in close pursuit.
Elsa Wolftongue
Darkshire, Duskwood
"I'm such an idiot - I ought never've trusted you," Elsa snapped, not letting up, "you're all the same - the second you don't need me you throw me away - I thought you cared about me!"

: Wilhelm Meyer

Meyer decided that the reconciliation was about to take some time and grabbed himself a chair to sit on. The warlock took out Max's compass and the needles he had harvested from Orphus; since it was obvious they were not going anywhere for some time, he might just as well spend the time to get a homing on Irene's current position.

Elsa's eyes bored into Peter's skull, frustrated by his silence. "Say something," she growled hoarsely.

Kalina Brayton
Westbrook Garrison
Kalina, having taken the lead - probably due to her superior leg length - skidded to a stop and looked over her shoulder. There was no time for something as complex as smoke; one of those bolts
was
going to hit them. "Oh ^&*!" she cried annoyedly as she reverted to her signature move.
One of the lit torches on the wall between the guards and the fleeing trio exploded in a bright fireball, showering the hallway with embers and temporarily blocking the view. "Sorry!" she called down the hall, not even sure herself if it was to the guards she almost engulfed or to the gnome whose plan she had crashed.

The crossbow bolt skimmed uselessly along the wall, the guard that had fired it lying slumped against the cell door. His companion was hunched over nearby, shielding her face from the embers.
