Nimrod Lightforge, Gregg
Westbrook Garrison, Elwynn Forest
"Alright," Gregg paused to breathe a sigh of relief, "Lyshallis, Athenari, stay here; when the guards run past, follow them and knock them out."
"Kalina, Nimrod, follow me," he added, walking towards the cell door. The dwarf blinked and walked after the gnome, not even remotely sure of what he was doing, let alone why he was not the one giving the orders.

"No it didn't. At least I hope not." He said looking out the window and saw a faint smoke trail. "Nope didn't blow up. It just shot off into the sky." He said nodding.

Lyshalis noded in acknowledgement to the gnome and began to fade and blend into the shadows.
Athenari gulped. "I suppose i can do that..." She replied to the gnome.

With a scream and stream of fire, a rocket and what looked like a chicken shot overhead. Max, Mortimer and Peter watched it pass with shock and befuddlement.

"My
game
, watchman Mortimer," Wilhelm hissed in a malevolent sibilance, ignoring the chicken, "Is something you have neither the mental faculties to know, nor the competence to pry about. Now, why do you not take Maximilian here into custody and deliver him to the court, as an upstanding little watchman you are?" he suggested, looming over Mort.

Wilhelm's face twitched in what could be, with equal chances of success, interpreted as both a spasm of homicidal rage and amusement at a joke only he knew.
"You'd
think
I'd like that, wouldn't you?" he quipped.

"Maybe."
"Oh good Light would you shut-up!" Max howled. "Just take me to jail already! I'll put the key in the lock myself rather than listen to this harping! Is this happening? Or are we just going to stand around exchanging stupidity all night?"
"Quiet you! Why do you want to go so soon? Hiding something eh? Stolen goods maybe? I bet you are. Your stolen goods are hereby forfeit! Deep pockets you have here," Mortimer observed, shoving his hand into Max's pocket.
"Hey! Harrassment! This is-hey!" he yelped. "Too low!"
Mortimer snatched his hand back. "Oops! Er, sorry...I ah...aha! What's this!" Mortimer proclaimed, embarrassment quickly lost as he produced from the second pocket a round silver case, about the size of a pocket watch.
Peter started upon seeing the device, his jaw falling half-open as he recalled when he had seen it last.

"Must you humiliate him so? Dinner and a boat ride first, Mortimer, dinner and a boat ride first," Meyer admonished the watchman in an absolute deadpan.

"Quiet you! You're not off the hook yet."
"That thing..." Peter said softly, pointing at the silver case still dangling from Mortimer's hand.
"Hm? This?" the watchman held up the piece speculatively. The suspiciously as he eyed the priest. "What about it? Recognize it?"
"Er, yes," Peter nodded, words bursting from him with growing excitement. "Saw it when found us. Had it in hand. Wanted to...to thank someone, for it. Seemed important. To ah...finding us, that is. Was looking for me and...Irene. Or, rather, Irene. Happened to be there. Looking for her too. Found her first. He, second. Not by much. Retrospect, lucky we did. Wondered, now, though, only just, hmm. Found us. But...how? Said...a moment...thinking...hmm...yes! Right! Ah, said: 'Heheyyyy, look at that! This thing does point due wretch.' Said such on discovering. Her. Irene. And, ah, me. So...perhaps, important? Think so, at least. Ah...yes..." Peter trailed off, seeming to have run out of words for the time being.
"Er..." Mortimer blinked blankly. "...What?"
Max stared at Peter in plain horror. But it only lasted a moment before his eyes narrowed in rage.

"I'll take that," Meyer said unceremoniously, snatching the case while Mortimer was busy blanking out.
"Though I appreciate you having remembered this before it is too late, Peter, you could have mentioned this earlier," the warlock added.

"That's mine!" Max roared, thrashing in his bindings. "Give it back! Thief! Stealing from prisoners? Shameless! Way to conform to prejudices! You're not helping the warlock's image at all! This is just plain mean!"
"Stop struggling!" Mortimer spat, fighting to keep Max from escaping his grip. He looked to Wilhelm. "That's evidence. I have to return it to its rightful owner!"
"I'm its rightful owner! Me! This guy! Right here! The one who had it in his freaking pocket! I owned it! I owned it so hard I took off the finish!"
"Quiet criminal scum!"
"Help! Help! I'm being oppressed!"

"Oh, I never said I am stealing this, did I now? I shall return this to you once I have found the asinine little wench," Wilhelm smirked spitefully.
"As for evidence, well, remember the fancy piece of parchment I showed you, Mortimer? If you read it - if you were able to read - you would know I can rightfully expropriate magical trinkets for the purpose of furthering my investigation."

Mortimer's face screwed up with indecision. His sense of duty warred with the word of the law, a common battle for those who worked within their confines. The rift which opened between the two not permitting a middle path in such a case, leaving only a choice between two evils. The young watchman glared at the warlock, his grip on Max's hands unknowingly tightening and flexing, something Max took without a protest save a fierce glare that promised eventual retaliation.
At last, the young watchman turned and spat into the dirt, as though in protest of his decision. "Fine! But if you don't return that, I can't guarantee we can hold him without sufficient evidence."

Two of the watchman's fingers came to his eyes, then pointed to the warlock warningly. Grabbing the yet bound illusionist, Mortimer began leading Maximilian away.

"Well, this could have gone less exhausting. Come, Peter, harpy, I need something to wash down the sour taste of this sordid affair."
