Tank versus Skitterweb Matriarch

Today was my firs time facing off against the Skitterweb Matriarch since the 5.0 patch. As usual, I was playing a Forsaken Protection Warrior. I was way overleveled for this particular zone thanks to a lot of bottom-feeding (I had just done Tirisfal, Durotar, AND Azshara) and wearing a crapload of heirlooms. I had a half-dozen Orc Sea Dogs (or Sea Pups, whatever) trailing me. There was no way I could lose this fight. She was right above me, waiting. I swapped out my Bloodsoaked Skullforge Reaver for a Stonifying Gun, took aim, opened my spell book and... hey, where'd Shoot go?
I had no throwable weapons. I had no way of initiating combat. I had no way of
getting her the hell down from there
. Thanks to the miracle of cross-realm zones, there were some trolls nearby who were willing to draw her down for me... but what if there hadn't been?
This character is about to embark on a quest that will award him with an Underestimated Crossbow, an item that used to have "stat stick for Strength classes" written all over it but is now a useless paperweight. I'm beginning to think that the removal of the ranged/relic slot could have been handled just a little bit differently. How about you?

Must not have looked at your spell book all that hard.

Link to throw.
My, what lovely reading comprehension you have.
The sad part is that you could have actually gotten me if you'd linked to Taunt, a skill that I had never bothered paying to learn back in Cat and had therefore never used or even thought about until now except as "the useless thing that I can get at level 18 but don't because it would take up the slot that I'm saving for Battle Orders".

Actually Monarch, Throw works by tossing the weapon of Warriors and Rogues, no small ammunition needed. You should already have it in your spell book.
Edit: Since you know, they told us in MoP that Rogues and Warriors will have a long range attack that doesn't need a ranged weapon/throwing dagger.
Edit 2:
Oh look, brand new Warrior, and what's that in my spell book?

I like how reading comprehension was criticised by the same person who didn't notice that nowhere on the tooltip does it say "Requires Thrown Weapon"

Okay kids, don't make me send you to different threads on the boards. No need to argue about a simple question after it has been answered. -wags finger scoldingly-
@BlackMonarch - You can use throw without a thrown weapon now. It uses your main hand weapon. You can also use taunt to get the add to come on down to you. Hope this helps clear things up for you.

It did back in Cat.
didn't buy taunt because it takes up a slot?
Please say you're trolling now...
Not trolling. I have 12 slots and I need them for abilities that enable me to do damage to my enemies, not ones that encourage enemies to damage me.

Right, but since there is no such thing as a thrown weapon anymore, if skills that used to require them are still in existence, then they'd have to have been modified. You should read through the tooltips on your old skills and see what else has changed.
Also, BlackMonarch, did you know that you can enable additional toolbars as part of the default UI off to the right hand side, for things like mounts, skills with a long cooldown, skills you rarely use, etc? You also have additional toolbars you can scroll through. So you don't have 12 slots- you really have 36 that can be out at once, and another 24 (or 36- I forget) that you can access by scrolling through action bars.
You can also keybind abilities to different buttons on your keyboard and mouse, even if they don't correspond to one of the slots on the action bars.
I actually can't imagine playing with only 12 abilities up at once- you wouldn't have access to anything situational without opening your spellbook.

Well, that's news to me.

Damn, I'm learning all sorts of stuff today.

Yeah, row #6 is reserved for my professions - lifeblood, smelting, fishing, campfire, cooking, first aid. I still haven't found a use for rows 2-5.

Go to your options and enable those two right-hand bars. It will make your life a lot easier. I find that all of my rotational moves and most common situational moves fit on the main bar, and then my various utility abilities, longer cooldowns and macros, buffs, mounts, pets, trinkets, etc. go on those bars to the right.
If you still need more, see if you can combine things into single macros, keybind to buttons you're not using, etc.
And yeah- anyone who had a thrown weapon ended up with a grey item in their bags when the patch went live. Wands became mainhand, guns, crossbows and bows stayed the same but are really only for hunters now, and thrown weapons and relics went bye bye and became vendor trash.

So... what good is my new Underestimated Crossbow? I obviously can't use it as a stat stick.

It's no good anymore - in the same way as Melee Stat Sticks are also no good for Hunters now. They are just a
relic
of the past now ...

As a warrior? If it is already soulbound, then any ranged weapon is pretty much vendor trash. I had to trash all my melee weapons and melee transmog pieces as a hunter (I kept 2 or 3 transmog, since I technically can still equip it- there's just no reason to for anything other than show).

And that's exactly why Blizz should have rethought the removal of that slot.

They announced it months ago, though. Anything you bought or won last expac, you still have gotten almost as much use out of it as you would have if they hadn't removed it, because in 2 weeks we're be leveling and re-gearing, and your ranged weapons would have lasted approximately 5-10 quests before being replaced.

That is why they removed that slot; since it was just a stat stick and useless for Rogues and Warriors.

You say you are a tank, OP? When you have no ranged attack, how do you plan to draw aggro back from stray mobs if you can't taunt?

Oh- I didn't even realize. You're tanking without your taunt on your bar? That's a HUGE no-no. Never mind the slots off to the side- that should be on your main bar. No exceptions.
