So in approximately 28 hours, the opening ceremonies begin.
Are there any events you're looking forward to? A certain athlete that's participating? Anything else that may happen?
For myself, I don't really have one athlete I want to watch compete. But there are several events I wouldn't mind watching. The last Olympics I only saw a few events, but I did get to watch Phelps break the world record and get his 8 gold medals. I also got to watch the gymnastic events. I wouldn't mind watching some of the track and field events this time around.

I can't say that I am very excited about the Olympics myself. Probably because the few sports I enjoy watching involve either motors or combat or that as yet to be invented sport of sport Motorized Mixed Martial Arts Hockey.
All kidding aside coming from a very athletic past I can certainly appreciate what is required of the athletes to get where they are and perform at the level they do. It just doesnt make very compelling viewing for me. As with a lot of sports most of them are far more fun to do then to watch.

I don't have pay TV which means I won't have a huge choice of what I can watch. I'd imagine the free-to-air broadcaster will mainly be hammering swimming and athletics, since that's what they usually hammer. Will mainly be cheering for Australia to knock the US off the top of the medal tally for once.

If you live here in the US and your cable/dish/satellite provider gives you access to CNNBC or MSNBC, you can watch every event live streamed to your computer.
Or, you can download the app to your phone or tablet and watch live on your mobile device.
I'll be checking it out as I like to watch some of the less popular events (read: not broadcasted) as well.
Go to

for more info.
Really? Over here you can watch it on TV if you have pay TV. Our pay TV provider has added 8 channels which are free for anyone who is currently subscribed to the sports channels.

Phelps advanced to the finals of 400 Medley as 8th and last, the current european champion and easily top 5 in the world missed the same finals as he ended up 9th. A bunch of record-holders had no chance and were all crushed, both male and female. It's only been a few hours, and there have already been more upsets than there were during the entire 2008 Olympics.

Are you competing OZ?

I'm there, but I'm not competing. I missed Sweden's qualifying time for 400 Medley with just over a second, so I was close. 2016, though
:)

For sure! You're only 18, right? Most swimmers seem to reach the prime of their career in their early 20s so you should have 2016 sorted!

Because I know next to nothing about athletics and sports and stuff I'm basing who I want to win on my political views or on who's the hottest athlete. My logic is
infallible
.
OZ, I'm sure you'll get something in the next few years, definitely! :)

Yeah, that's right - the best swimmers typically peak around 25, but it varies by a bit. I've been developing a lot the last two years, so I'm guessing my peak will be around 25, making Rio de Janeiro perfect. The thing to worry about, though, is staying motivated for all of the next four years. It hurts a bit to be so close and miss the qualifying time, but seeing people I've practiced with compete is quite motivating, though!
On another note, I'm not that knowledgeable in other sports - does anyone know when Usain Bolt will be competing?

Did the rules change or something, cause I thought half-fishes were illegal lol; they'd have an unfair advantage =).
Still, you'll get in next time Oz, no doubt.

Will you be looking to enter other international meets in the meantime, or just the Olympics?
