Tip of the Post
Mid-Month Extra!!
Step 1
Using and Understanding Progress Bars
Progress bars are a fun little addition to any guide. They add an extra element of visual usefulness to help express your ideas. With their ability to fit anywhere and to be used for any situation, your next guide will be that much better for using them.
Here are some ways you can use progress bars:
Showing progression in a set of directions.
Tracking completion in questing or collecting.
Expressing difficulty.
Or even tracking the progress of your own guide and its features!
Click on the following tabs to see examples and code of different progress bars.
Step 2
Basic Bar Example

Basic Bar Code

Total Bar fill = \
Bar color = \

Step 3
Item Tooltip Bar Example
Progress to my favorite weapon
Item Tooltip Bar Code
\

Elements
The mouseover abilities of this bar are achieved by stealing features from the
\
BBCode
You can use any Wowhead item, spell, or quest, by putting in their page code
\
\
\
Mouseover me!!!!
\
Omg! I'm changed!

Elements
The mouseover abilities of this bar are achieved by stealing features from the \ BBCode
The modified URL and mouseover float on top of the blank progress bar.
A blank progress bar is filled with the non-blank space BBCode
&n

Inside the

code:
\
tags will hold the non-mouseover text
\

Since we modified the

BBCode, clicking on the toolbar will bring you
" / "
This
" / "
can still be replaced with any other page destination. Just like in the Tooltip Bar example
Step 5
Basic Bar (Plus!) Example
Basic Bar (Plus!)
Basic Bar (Plus!) Code

Elements
Text Location = \xxxxxx
width=90%]
Text Color = \ Text here
Bar Thickness =

and
\
Three things to remember
1
\
= 2
\
's
The
\
font style has 2 natural top
\
's and one natural bot
\
\
Removes the top 2
\
's
This makes equal spacing on top and bottom.
Add more
\
's or
\
's to add more space anywhere
Other additions = If you can code it, you can add it!
Icons
Tables
Pictures
WTF?
Yeah I don't even......

So here is the first "Mid-Month Extra" tip of the post.
I still need to integrate the navigation options from post to post, and then from the post to the mid-tip. I will probably have those good to go by the time June's Guide spot light comes out.
Spend a lot of time on this one. Lots of coding. Hope you guys enjoy it, and find it useful.
Cheers,
Hat
p.s. As always, thanks to
asakawa
for consulting and providing some sweet examples for me to work on and tweak.

SquireKel: Got it.
BTW: Why aren't you SquiressKel?
Because there's no such thing as a Squiress. Adding -ess to the end of a masculine title doesn't automatically make it feminine.
More importantly: Yay progress bars! Coolest thing to do with BBCode, imho.

I googled it. Wife of a Squire.

Let me rephrase. There's no such thing as a Squiress in terms of having the same connotation and responsibilities as a Squire. The intent of the username was to refer to a literary character I enjoyed as a role model when younger. Nevertheless, my username is not up for debate. I don't question your name or persona on the site, and this thread is certainly not the appropriate place to do it.
TL;DR - Back off the naming situation. It's not your concern.

Added a basic progress bar to the bottom of my guide on the only thing I could think to track progress against.
Cheers.

Calm down. Just asking. No problem at all.

When would be a good time to use a progress bar in a guide? I think they look awesome, but I'm struggling to see the appeal of putting them in since they don't update like xp / rep bars inga
Yeah, it would be nice if there was a way to make a self updating bar. That goes a little bit above and beyond the scope of BBCode though.
As to where to use them? You could make a progress bar that denotes the difficulty of a quest. You could make a progress bar that involves time, and the completion of different stages to reach an end time. Honestly is up to your own creativity. Just think of elements that would involve starting at one value and making your way to another.
Cheers,
Hat

I used it at the bottom of my guide to show progress towards 10K views :)
Cheers.

The link included in the Requested Guides section for Asakawa's Warlock guide in fact leads to the now out of date hunter guide.

Could a Mod address what does or does not qualify a Guide for stickied status? I realize of course not every guide should be stickied. I do feel however that some that aren't should be. I wouldn't feel right naming them publicly as I don't want to start a war over it. But clarification would be appreciated. I think, personally, stickied status should be based on a few things.

While the community's input is appreciated as well, I'm really hoping to hear from a Mod as they are the ones who make the decision.

Not to be repetitive but I'm still really hoping for an answer. I feel like I posted in the right place by putting it on the guide thread but it seems to have been passed over.

Think of it like "editor's choice". The editor in this case is Ashelia.
