We totally bought a sheep, or something, from Spencer Gifts for a friend's birthday while I was in college. I'm just that kind of friend- lol.

Was your friend a Kiwi?

Like the bird?

Like a New Zealander.

No- just a guy we thought would be embarrassed unwrapping an inflatable sheep in front of 30 people.
And we were right.

You officially just became awesome in my eyes.

We have four Kiwis in the office. I'm not sure who that'd be best for, but it's definitely up for consideration =P
(And Donny - are the Aussies the only ones who call New Zealanders 'Kiwis', or is it the US and any non-British colony who don't have a clue?)(##RESPBREAK##)8##DELIM##Squishalot##DELIM##

Not in the US- hence my confusion about buying a sheep for a bird.

I'm not sure. I'd say the nickname Kiwi is unique to Australia and NZ though.
Your office sounds a bit like mine. We have 6 full time staff and 3 of them are Kiwis.

Was the bird fit, eh?

For people who all speak the same language, supposedly, we do lose a lot in translation when it comes to slang.
Post by
donnymurph
For sure. Television is causing the English language to become more Americanised worldwide, but each country still has its own peculiarities when it comes to both slang and accents.

I watch more British television at this point than American television (though I rarely watch either).

I only really watch Australian TV these days (read: sport).

I think we kind of hijacked NeoBlackHeart's thread, guys :(
But, on the upside, we've done it entertainingly, so perhaps giving him something to read here is answering the problem at the heart of the thread, even if the conversation itself isn't strictly on topic...
