I prefer to be surprised, but it's mostly because I don't care too much. In fact, I only really want a couple things right now (I prefer money, actually, so I can just buy what I want - sentiment or holiday spirit be damned).

Unless there's something I specifically need, usually surprised, it feels really great and also I rarely know what I want.

People asking for money weirds me out. I always thought the whole point of christmas presents was the sentiment... what's the sentiment in money?
Dosh for Steam sales. STEAM SALES! WOOO!

I don't mind either way though if there is something that I really want I'll ask for it. Mostly though if there is something that I really want I'll have already bought it for myself so if people really want to get me something it is either a surprise or money.

#251- What is the weirdest tradition your family has?
My grandmother must have this green basket that holds dinner rolls on the table for Thanksgiving. I drove for 13 hours one way with 8 other people to be there for Thanksgiving, and I spent a big chunk of Thanksgiving searching her garage for this stupid bun warmer. I felt like I spent 2 days driving so I could spend time in her garage going through her junk so she could have warm buns, in the name of tradition. Very aggravating, but on a positive note, I believe that is the only tradition that we have... warm dinner rolls on Thanksgiving.

Allowing the Asian father to essentially be a superior ass.
Yeah, I'm a resentful *!@#.
Okay in all honestly, I think the one that comes to mind is a tendency to give out money, whether as gifts or through our typical New Years' tradition. Maybe that's where I picked up the preferences in my previous post up.

(I should point out that Swedes don't celebrate on Xmas day, but on the eve unlike in the UK or US, they open their presents then. and yes I always do "go for the paper" and dress up.)
Not just the Swedes. As far as I know, all the Slavic countries (Czechs, Slovaks, Ukrainians, Russians, Poles, Serbians, and so on) also celebrate and open presents at the evening on 24th. I think it might be an European thing.
Here in Slovakia, the christmas evening starts with a dinner, usually between 18~19:00. The meals are not entirely set in stone for all families, all tend to adjust the menu to their personal tastes and such. In my family, we start with honey wafers with nuts and chopped garlic, then we have cabbage soup with mushrooms, and after that comes some sort of fish with potato salad. There is also tons of cookies of various sorts. After the dinner, the family moves to the christmas tree where presents are laid around and stuffs. And then you do whatever you want. It is very common in many families to watch a lot of TV. They are usually playing the same movies over and over and over every christmas, and they are sort of a local tradition. Like, we can not even imagine that they would not play some of the old classic ones on x-mas. And most people watch them even though they know them like the back of their hand.
I do not have any special christmas traditions myself. I go to my mother's place for dinner and some family meetings and stuff, and then I go home on the same evening and just sit by the pc as usual. Might make some nice photos on these christmas of me and my cat.

We observe Christmas.
Oh, why is that weird? Because none of us identify as Christian!
Not only that- they observe it excessively. She has not one, but TWO xmas trees.

I have one, but I didn't put it up this year. No one is coming over, and BF could care less- lol.

Man, my family must be boring. We don't have any weird traditions.
Or maybe they're just traditional enough to us to not be considered weird o_O
