People who complain about inflation need professional help.
See, I wasn't complaining, I just said that I remember that gas prices were low.

Cars.
I really think I hit the "sweet spot" as a teenager, if you liked cool cars. I turned 16 in 1988, so all the really great muscle cars were old enough to be cheap, yet new enough to still find parts. My first car was a 1969 Mustang GT/CS. My dad bought it for me for $500 (wrecked, and not running). We fixed it up, and I had one badd ride. I think I sold it for around $4000. Now, in todays market, this car would be worth a minimum of $15-20k....if you could even find one.
We also had some of the greatest "modern" muscle cars back then. The Monte Carlo SS, Trans Am, IROC Camaro...just to name a few.
Today, the classic muscle cars are still around, but they are insane priced, and parts are impossible to find on a reasonable budget. The "modern" muscle cars are tough to find because people never thought an 80's car would be worth anything, so many of them ended up crushed or rotting in a field somewhere.
And while many of the current cars, like the new Camaro, Mustang, and the Dodge Charger / Challenger are amazing cars...they just don't have the style, or "personality" that the older ones do.

My cousin explained a bit about gasoline prices in the US as compared to the EU. She pays a lot less for the same amount of gas, but public transport outside of major cities is practically non-existent there and distances are far larger. For instance, she once had to pick up an implement for cleaning her garden and drove 70 miles. That sort of thing is utterly foreign to me, living in London.
Which reminds me of the one thing I can think of that was better back then: holidays to the US. I was unaware of people's obligations and employment and assumed that all anyone did in the US was swim in pools, eat delicious fast food and watch one of four hundred television channels. Then I found out my grandmother wasn't living with a friend, my grandfather remarried, filled in his pool and I found out a little bit about the history of US foreign policy.

The only "back in my day" I can think of is... Back in my day, as some of the houses built weren't around, to go from point A to B I could just jump over a few walls to spare a few meters :P. Now there are houses on the way.
Of course those were mostly ways to get faster around in hide and seek, but that's another story - I at least used them till houses were built even for moving around, even in my teens were it would actually look fairilly burglary.

Yeah, suburban sprawl is an issue in America.
I chose to sacrifice a lot in exchange for privacy, and "country living". I drive 34 miles each way to work every day. The closest grocery store (other than a basic, "country style" general store is 20 miles away.
The end result..gas is a huge expense, as is wear and tear on vehicles. I have a 2005 pickup, and it has almost 180,000 miles on it because of the commute.
As for Trans Am, Who wouldn't want to drive KITT?
I was a HUGE Knight Rider fan growing up. And in High School, I did end up with a 1986 Trans Am....T-Tops and all. But, rather than go for the Blacked out KITT experience, I opted for the more '80 fashion statement....Teal Green :-)

#165- What does your partner do that annoys the heck out of you? Or, if you're single, it can be what a roommate does, or what you see someone else's partner do to them that you can't understand how they put up with it.

He takes his clothes off in the living room and then just leaves them there. There's usually 8-10 pieces of his clothes strewn across the floor on a normal basis.

She's excessively detailed about keeping the house clean. If I leave even one sock on the ground, ohh boy I get an earful. I wish she would tone down the neat-freak juuuuuust a little bit. We made a compromise though, she did toned down the neat-freak aspect in that she allows me to keep my study room as messy as I want, as long as I tone down my own walking-mess on the rest of the house.

I'm glad my boyfriend and I aren't neatfreaks. Our house isn't dirty or messy, it just gets untidy sometimes. I'd much rather lay around after work than clean house.

It's the worst. Like honestly, stop it.
Yup. Room mates I can't speak for atm, but people in general: walking into the room I'm in and opening the door, then not fully closing it on the way out. If it was !@#$ing closed when you entered at least have the decency to shut it behind you. Oh, and talking to you when you blatantly don't give a @#$% and will not stop talking.
