Okey this might sound wierd because priests are known as the hardest leveling class.
play a shadow priest they are always fun, if u kill a mob u use maby 10% of ur mana you rarely need to sit down and drink for mana. And the best thing is they are awsome dps when their are 70 and if you are sikc of dpsing or want to go Holy then you got the best healer in the game :)
Good luck with whatever you choose

Prot Pally.
1. Every server needs tanks.
2. No matter what anyone says I had the most fun soloing as a prot pally. They are as far as I've found the only class that can solo 5-7 mobs their own level as soon as the 30s and all the way into 60s and beyond.
3. Played/geared properly, they are IMO the best 5 man tank at least until heroics. Largely because they require no CC. (Once you hit heroics/raids you can't really take dmg as easily)
4. If you ever get bored of tanking you can respec to either DPS or heals.
Finally, it sounds like you are experienced. Tanks are generally leaders in groups.
If I had as much experience as you, I'd want to be leading.
and that's my 2c on that.
I have taken on that many mobs of my level regularly as a BM Hunter...with no trouble whatsoever. And while doing the Winterspring giants quest, I regularly handled 2-3 ELITE mobs that were 1-2 lvls higher than I am without any trouble. Handling multiple mobs is not just a Pally thing. A good tanking pet with lots of DPS and aggro allows you to handle a ton of action. Granted, this is my first character to lvl to 60 plus....but i have little trouble in the BGs topping in the damage rankings and kills. Especially if the other side is running a bunch of clothies...:)

I would go either druid or hunter. Yes, hunters can be hella hard to find a group as, but once you get a little bit of a reputation going, people will be glad to have you (at least, that's how it was/is for me). They are also superb soloing classes, arguably the best, not to mention, extremely powerful in pve as well as pvp (for teaching those nasty gankers a lesson).
As a druid, also a superb soloing class (also arguably the best), you have more versatility, yet I find my druid to be slightly weaker in both pve and pvp than my hunter. Yeah, I can heal, but a hunter's feign death is tough to beat. And while having stealth is awesome for pvp, my druid crits for ~1/2 the damage that my hunter does...yes I know there is a 4 level difference, but still...the burst damage really just doesn't compare.
Hunters will pump out more damage than a druid, but druids are excellent tanks for 1-3 mobs (any more gets to be a challenge).
It's really up to you, but that's just my two cents.
Where to begin..
My druid is on equal gear with several Hunters in the guild. When i get to kitty mode something like Kara the DPS charts are mine, all mine, with enh shammy on 2nd, and hunters dangling way down around 4, 5 or 6.
Does your druid have clearcasting yet? Get a proc on a pounce/mangle/shred opener and come back to tell me more about burst dps.
1/2 the crit damage.. You're at lvl 60, there is a serious error in you equating the two characters. @ lvl 70 with 3.200 AP my druid's shred crits for 2.5-2.7k on bossfights.
What i'd really like to say is, don't be commenting on issues you don't have enough data for.
Then your groups are having the hutners jsut trap, and not DPS. With BM and a hunter in full DPS mode (and BW), few can rank up there with them. Unless the Hutners have no clue as to what they are doing. that is always an option.

I think the fact that I've leveled my druid and hunter both to 60+ makes me more than qualified to give an educated opinion of the two classes.
Now, where for me to begin...
1. If a kitty druid is owning the dps charts in kara, I want to see the "equal geared" hunters play. Because they suck a big hairy pair.
2. If an enh sham is next, then he isn't really playing his class as effectively as possible. Where shamans really shine are the group buffs from totems. Yes, they can pump out huge damage, but enh shamans are called cardboard chainsaws for a reason...
3. As far as my math, my druid's ravage was critting for ~1100-1300 at 60. My hunter's Aimed Shot was critting for ~2300-2600 at 64. That looks pretty close to 1/2 the damage to me. Oh, wait, you're right. It's LESS than 1/2 the damage. And perhaps your reading skills aren't quite up to par, but I did say that I knew there was a 4 level difference.
4. Even if OoC procced (I'm speccing my druid to tank...I need to change a couple points around right now), and I could ravage TWICE (which I couldn't, because the first one would bring me out of stealth), The burst damage still wouldn't compare to that of an Aimed Shot/Arcane Shot double. Trust me, I've experimented with this a lot, an Aimed/Arcane double does ~2k if neither of them crit, and ~3.7-4.2k if they both crit.
5. And finally, I would suggest you take the advice in your own signature...I made it very clear that my entire post was just my own two cents, and not the end-all be-all. So your flame was really just kind of pointless and I would have to say that all it really succeeded in doing was to tick me off.
Have a good day, and I sincerely hope the hunters in your guild learn some skills.
