the quests seem to pull you in better then they used to.
For me they don't. I feel more diconnected from my character.
When I did my tauren's earth totem quest and had to run all the way through the barrens as a lowbie, my heart was literally pounding. I felt honest fear as that Thunder Lizard shot lightning over my head.
In cataclysm, not only is that sort of death never staring me in the face. But if it is, I'm not afraid for my character dying. I don't feel what my character does anymore, and it kills the game for me.

Did you misunderstand what I said? To answer your question, I want to feel like playing a paladin has certain advantages over playing a priest, but I want those advantages to come at a cost. The day paladins start spamming bubbles as a method of healing is the day I hang it up.
Yes, sorry. I totally read that wrong.
That's the problem with some of the player base in this game. You want it all ez mode.
No, you misunderstood me. I don't want it EZ mode, I – to put it bluntly – want fun. I am aware that must be hard for you to conceive, but ultimately I play this game for enjoyment and recreation. Being required to run neverending "epic" quests on a number of alts just to be able to go into a dungeon or battleground is not what I consider fun.
I fail to see the connection between "epic" quests and EZ mode. Does it require skill to finish long questlines? No, absolutely not. It is simply time-consuming. Maybe you like to play games that force players to do something they don't enjoy – I don't. Besides, I could equally argue that skills should be tied to running dungeon X or battleground Y or farming 7359 of item Z. I'd like to hear your outcry if you had to do something you absolutely hate just to get that one spell. 8 times (or however many alts you have).
If finishing epic quests is fun to you, that is fine. I actually like such quests too, as long as I have the choice not to do them. In addition, I can enjoy a quest line even if it doesn't provide me a reward (at least not one that is required); could it be that you can only enjoy epic quests if you get sort of forced to?
I'd like to hear one good reason to do it your way (other than "people who disagree with me are wrong"). Fortunately, Blizzard seems to disagree with you too and mostly does not force anyone into any specific playstyle.
If you ask me, the only thing wrong with the player base in this game is that some are too quick with judgements and forget that different people have different needs.
No matter how epic those quests may have felt, it is terribly annoying to be required to
run quests
play the game
just to get access to all your abilities.
Sense of adventure.
There are hundred ways to play the game, and I fail to see the necessity why this should be the correct one. I don't know if you personally PvP, but I know for sure that many people would be outraged (and I would understand them) if they had to
PvP
play the game
to get their abilities.

That sort of feeling comes in two ways:
A) When death has some sort of meaningful consequence. Such as severe loss of items and experience.
And B) When you're new to the game.
Since the first has never been true in WoW, I find it hard to believe you weren't new at the time you did the quest. And as we all know, when we were new to WoW the world was much bigger, all feelings were magnified by that simple fact.
Or when you feel connected to your character and his/her adventure...

And people feel like that in Cata; I know I do.

I don't.
I've never felt as diconnected what Silverpine, westfall, or Uldumn.

Which still goes back to personal opinion; since people are split on that.

The thing I'm saying is that WoW used to be unigue in that it never made you feel super-important outside of raids/dungeons, which were only there for gameplay.
Not it is just like every other game where I am mister jhonny-awesome-super-stat-world-saver.

The thing I'm saying is that WoW used to be unigue in that it never made you feel super-important outside of raids/dungeons, which were only there for gameplay.Any of the World Events would say otherwise, as did quite a few of the quests in the old world: From the Battle of Darrowshire to the quests in the Swamp of Sorrow, to finding out about the Dreadlord in the Blasted Lands. And from there when you went into Outland, it was the same.
Not it is just like every other game where I am mister jhonny-awesome-super-stat-world-saver.And the quests don't send you off to bum @#$% nowhere for no reward; I prefer that a lot more.
