B ut I still can't tank while dual wielding.
And you never could.
Did you sleep through Wotlk? :P
New talent system isn't bad, it's just.... not as good as I initially thought it was. There's always going to be a hierarchy of what tank/dps/heals prioritize, and while the more boring talents (your __ has a 30/60/100% chance to ___) will be gone, in truth we're pretty much left with what our existing talent trees would look like if those same boring talents were removed right now. Not quite the complete overhaul I had hoped for, at least not in the pve game.
However, current design they've shown us does look like it will allow for interesting styles and surprises in the pvp world. Never know if that prot warrior is specced for Avatar (of which I have really high expectations, I hope the transformation is awesome). And Asphyxiate (dk) seems a bit sketchy; it has no cast/channel time and just says 'lasts until cancelled'. That could be quite OP :P

Each tier of talents fulfills a determined role, like self-healing for warlocks or mobility for warriors, for example. The flexibility is that you decide what talent to choose to fulfill that role, based on your (teammates) needs. It would be pretty stupid to take, for example, two talents that give health regen but zero mobility.
This exactly. My impression from looking over the talents is that each talent from a given tier tries to accomplish a broad goal in a different way. For example, rogue's get a survivability talent at 45 and a stun/daze effect at 75. Those are easy to see and which one you pick depends more on spec and playstyle. However, at 30 you have a more interesting choice. You have to pick between survivability against either a single caster, a single melee (or caster) or a group of melee. The whole point of the new talents is that Blizz wants you to have to make that choice.

I like the new talent system myself, but I am wondering what they are going to do with synergistic effects, like procs, special effects that used to be provided through passive talents that became a core part of rotations, etc.
Will a bunch of these synergies be removed? Or will each ability be changed into a giant wall of text to include all of the synergies?
For example, just off the top of my head, a prot warrior.
We have
Shield Slam
synergising with
and
, both of which are core aspects to understanding the rotation. Would shield slam then be reduced to a wall of text to list all of the relevant synergies? It seems to me that the annihilation of passive talents is going to clutter the majority of class skills, unless they completely revamp how class abilities interact.

You'll be getting passive abilities as you level; more then likely most of the useful talents in the current trees will be made into those: example, Titan's Grip will end up as a passive ability for a Fury spec'ed warrior.

Which is going to be SWEEEETTT.
I've been begging for Titan's Grip Bladestorming for ages.

Willing to bet some will be removed and others just piled on, depending on the ability in question. Given the attitude I'm sensing from what little we know so far, I don't think there will be many 'synergy' talents come MoP.
EDIT: Also, Interest, you are hereby awarded a
boot to the head

I think GC got tired of the fail and said "you know what? Just design talent trees neither you nor anyone else can **** up."

And I STILL won't be able to remake my Wrath Fury Tank.
Yes, I am still extremely angry that it got killed with Cata.

To be fair the only reason it worked for fury is because the gear gap just got huge in wotlk; endgame fury warrior had probably 20-30% more health than the average tank, and due to old whirlwind and ArP they hit like trains carrying trucks that were pulling trains. And of course healers having infinite mana, essentially. Having a geared fury tank was basically like having a 70 run you through BFD back in the BC days; they weren't technically tanking, they just steamrolled everything.
I do miss that though.

I just want a class that can tank while dual wielding.
My DK was also a frost tank, and I really liked it... Blood is comparatively boring with all the self heals...

My main concern is with the 'second' spec defining abilities. You know, the ones that are deep in the trees right now. Are they going to give those to us at level 10 now too. Specifically, as a fury warrior, will I get Bloodthirst and Titan's Grip? It just seems that it was already pretty OP to give some of the abilities they did at lvl 10 either it will be even more OP or we might end up losing some of those abilities.
No, you'll get Titan's Grip as a Spec Ability at like level 58 or something.

Why can't they just let all warriors DW at 10, but fury gets TG at that level as well?
Balance issues.

To be honest I don't think they'd be as big as one would think...*shrug* They should give some decent bonuses to Fury for dual wielding at that level though (which they already do to some degree...).

Mine was too, and I also miss it. Frost/UH subspec (remember old unholy blight? that in frost spec = there's no such thing as losing aggro + you topped the meters :P)
But for whatever reason it's just not in blizzard's vision to DW tank, even though they left our old runeforge in for doing just that.
