In-case the age confirmation and above is not enough, I will say it one more time.
This video is very graphic and tragic to watch.
Skip the video and read the following news story if you want to get all the information with out the footage

The worst part about this is....what do you do?
A while back I read a story about a woman in some 3rd world country that had to leave one of her children in the desert to die, because she could only carry one. And how many other people walking along the same road just left the child. As horrible as that story was, I could almost justify it due to the culture of the country. It was still a child, it was still a life. But lets face it, there are still parts of our world where people are still very much "animalistic" in nature. In that case, basic survival instinct meant having to sacrifice one child to save herself and another.
But this....this is a modern, industrial, civilized nation. Quite possibly the second most powerful nation on the planet, and arguably, THE most powerful. And yet they can walk and ride past a dying child in the street like its not there?
( I once shot a raccoon in my yard that was eating all my cats food. There were 2 of them, and I had a single shot rifle. After I shot the first one, the second actually came back, and seemed to "check" on the one I had shot. Even an animal has natural instincts to help others)
Sadly, there is nothing that we, or anyone can do. We are so reliant on China for everything we use on a daily basis, we couldn't live without them. They could have drug this child into that street and executed her for no reason, and we all would still go to Wal-Mart to shop.

There is a loss of empathy, and a drive for selfishness. The article that hat linked mentions people being afraid of being implicated. People would rather a child die than be involved in his/her injury. Sad thing indeed.

Wouldn't the phrase young toddler be a bit redundant?
Wouldn't "
Young
Chinese
Toddler
in China
" be redundant?

I understand and know Chinese psychology very well. If a child came begging at someone's doorstep who lost their parents, the people who opened the door will treat this child as a curse, and will refuse to lend it aid and shelter, just because they are superstitious their karma will turn against them......
They believe that if they were to help someone with bad fortune, it will happen to them.
-____-
edit: but at the same time, it's not their fault. they live in a superstitious culture, where as we live in a different one.

-____-Ok, but this I disagree with:edit: but at the same time, it's not their fault. they live in a superstitious culture, where as we live in a different one.
You leave a toddler bleeding to death in the middle of the road to fend for hisself/herself, you don't get to put the blame onto 'culture'. There is some rotten core to your soul that is to blame. Allowing the shift of blame alone is horrible.

Yet people in large cities here in the West are killed/mugged/raped/kidnapped right off the street, and people just walk on by....it's a global thing.

yep mytie, it's not their fault because they dont think it's their fault. just like how we think it's wrong for other people to eat dogs, while we americans eat india's most sacred animal, the cattle.

Eating dogs instead of cattle is a cultural difference, I would agree. Allowing toddlers to die isn't a cultural difference, it is wrong. (the urge to Godwin this discussion is unbearable) Were the Nazi's excused for murdering Jews because that was just a 'cultural' thing, and that it wasn't their fault at all?

Adamsm,
I have to agree, at least in principle. In many of our inner cities...drug slum type areas, crimes like you mentioned do occur, and many times people will not get involved, usually out of fear of retalliation by the criminal.
But I can honestly say, that a child dying in the street would probably stop even the most cold-blooded street gang member. Even in the most crack infested slum in America, I honestly believe that anyone with the ability to do so would help a child in this type of situation.

Maybe we can compromise and meet in the middle. I agree that (like WW2 Germans) cultural issues probably contributed to this incident, but I insist that simply because cultural factors contributed to the issue, doesn't mean that the people themselves were faultless (again, like WW2 Germans).
