Night Elves are immortal, so he couldn't die in prison. As for what he did, he could probably do nothing but sit there for the entire time. It's a real testament to his character that he could survive 10,000 years in prison and still able to form coherent sentences really.

fap fap fap?
EDIT: And Night Elves were only unable to die of old age. He could still commit suicide if he wanted to.

brood endlessly? plan in the most meticulous way his revenge? angst about how unfair the world treated him? moan how they should had praised him as a hero?
seriously, who cares? To me, malfurion was a sanctimonious prick for sentencing his brother to prison when elves had just became eternal beings.
I mean, a criminal getting 30 years in the slammer is justice, getting life sentence when you are a short-lived specie (80 years like humans) is also justice. Getting life when you are inmortal is just wrong. It would had been actually more merciful to just kill him.
And then we get to the scene in warcraft 3, where he refuses to address his own brother as an elf, and just refers to him as a maddened beast.......
so yhea >.>

I really do hate Malfurion, I don't believe I could express this enough. He is the absolute biggest, most ass-backwards prick of a character in all of WoW. Like, if Varian and Garrosh had a love child, and it was raised to be a bad bird-man druid thing, it wouldn't be half as bad as Malfurion.
I honestly just want to get Godfrey and blow his brains out all the way through Hyjal and wherever else he shows up...

He probably tried hitting on maeiv a lot, since she was the only woman around since she had to guard his prison for all that time. Spending that much time in prison means any holes a goal.
You've been watching Azerothian Super-Villians, haven't you?

Went completely insane, and brooded on the fact he wasn't Mister Perfect and the girl he loved choose the new hero of the Night Elves....sadly, the duty drove Maiev insane too.
And yes, would have been better to just kill Illidan in the past, rather then imprison.

Well, I'd be happy for his sake if he was able to sleep for really long periods of time. I mean, 10.000 years is an incomprehensibly long time - and not only did it twist
his
mind more than a little bit (though the fact that he managed to do
anything
coherent once he was out is, as others said, remarkable) - it did just the same to Maiev's.
