Alright:
1. Private servers are against both Blizzard and Wowhead rules; you don't talk about them and you don't advertise them.
2. No, it's not actually free: If you want the best of the best items, you have to pay the server overlords in real money to get that stuff.
3. Playing on Private Server is like playing in a Sandbox when you are in your 20's; no fun.

Doesn't matter if its better if it is or not, playing on a private server is a ToS violation, and you will prolly get banned off live servers. Privates also tend to have lots of problems with no customer support, not to mention the fact that you are pretty much at the mercy of whoever runs the server.
