It'd be good to have a "Guides" tab on our class pages too, for all that's worth. (It's possible this was told before, I haven't read through; it wasn't on the class page I checked, so I thought it worth mentioning.)

I don't think we can implement this directly - but it's a good idea to add links to class guides on each class' page. I think you'll see this happen :)

I wonder if it would be possible to add the "formatting Help" toggler (found under the edit box for posts and comments) to the guide editing page also. I'm sure that most guide authors are using tags they haven't used before even if they're normal ones available in forum posts so it might be a useful resource.

Hey guys, so we're working on improving this feature and we love what y'all have been doing so far...
But here's the million dollar question: how do we integrate it into our DB?
For example, if you looked up Murky... what if there was a guide on THE HISTORY OF MURKY... how do we show that in a very visual way that makes it very big and easy to identify there's an awesome guide without ruining our database?
Similarly, what if you looked up a rare mob... and there was no guide... how do you show people we WANT a guide to be written without being really annoying yet still being really obvious/encouraging?

First thing that came to my mind is that people could add keywords to their guides. Like... I would go: "Feral Druid Tank PvE Raid 85 Class Guide" and stuff. Keywords in general are used to make things appear in the search results when a user searches for something. Do not believe it is a very ellegant solution though. /headscratch
Could items and spells that are linked to in guides somehow track in which guide they are linked? So if you would go to a druid taunt spell, there would be a database tab that would say: "Mentioned in guides...". There is a chance that someone who would, for example, go to a rare mount would find a guide about collecting rare mounts this way. Or someone who checks a cloth helmet would get to a Warlock gear list, and so on, a.k.a. people would get to the info they might possibly seek. If it wouldn't be the info they look for, well, "Same model as" tab is probably not the most useful either and we have it anyway.
Likewise, individual classes have their own database pages, like
this
. People tend to visit those for lists of spells. If there would be a tab that would say "Related guides" or so, there is a chance that someone who would appreciate a guide would get to a guide that he wants to read this way.
Hmm, what else. Well the guides could definitely be on top of the relevant forum sections. As in, Druid guides would appear on top of druid forums, and so on. Some guides could be relevant for more sub-forums, like Dungeons and Raids (i always considered this the PvE forum) and a class forum, or a class forum and a PvP forum. This however is not a suggestion for a
database
integration, but a
forum
integration, heh. Back to the sketch board.
I was also suggesting a huge neon arrow pointing at the Guides once, but that got scrapped fast!
Lol, there could be a sneaky adjustment to the "Random Wowhead Page" button so that the first time someone clicks it, he would be sent to a random
guide
. :D Okay nah.
Hah, imagine a database filter that would go like "Mentioned in guide" and then there would be space for the URL of the guide (a rollout menu with their names would get too big to navigate soon), and a TRUE/FALSE toggler. Silly idea.
Well, I would say suggestion number 2 out of this post is the best thing I came up with.

I have no idea if this would be practically achievable but I think it's a truly brilliant idea!

Maybe there could be a background script that would parse the guide for all database IDs every time the guide would be updated/editted, so each guide would have an invisible list of database IDs attached to it? I suppose the database could work with that list afterwards.

Might be less overhead for it to just scan the linking used in the guides, much like a reverse of the new linking system.

There is a What Linked Tab--using
Reins of the Swift Spectral Tiger
as an example, that tab features my mount and pet guides, as well as a newspost. I can't officially speak for anyone, but as we have a system like that already implemented for blog posts, hopefully it can be extended to include guides.

I'm not sure if it was suggested earlier, but I think you should implement feature to see at what guides are people working on.
It's for making guides that none is working on, and avoid multiple "same" guides to be written, just because none knew about other people.
Hope I explained it correctly.

I made one for Holy PvP. It's in the class section. Perhaps the class section could just be split into 2 subcategories, PvE and PvP.

Yes this is exactly what I intended to say, but words failed me in my last post, lol.

Found bug.
In forums when you use "Ordered list (numbers)" it works fine
Code:
A
B
C
Result:
A
B
C
But when you use it in guide writing, it doesn't work properly.
Code:
A
B
C
Result:
A
B
C
Hope doesn't need any additional information on this.

I noticed that as well. I had to add the tags in manually.

Hello all, i'm not exactly great at reading java (very inexperienced with it) but I understand a large portion of the wowhead BBCode and how it all fits together. I'm in the midst of creating a Hunter Class Raiding Guide, but i'm having some coding issues here and there, you know, to make format look nicer. I strive for a bit of perfection you could say. I've noticed Asakawa and Thror's guides in particular have some coding that I like, and taking the source of it into a window doesn't help me when I can't read java. I have a large amount of questions, so it'd be fantastic if I could talk to someone (preferably private so we don't clutter up this thread) about some coding. Great to hear back from any experienced wowhead coder soon.
