And I have no clue how to solve it.
I've picked up pvp for a couple of days now and it seems to be impossible for me to kill a frost mage. While he can root me in place all he wants I can no longer shift out of them (what the hell, blizzard). Pvp trinkets are marginally helpful against them and I find myself getting facerolled by them clothies far too often.
Any help?

You have 3 ways to break out of a snare, you can
Stampeding Roar
,
Dash
or trinket out.

That's very true. What I'm talking about though are roots - only trinketing will help which always leads to an immediate second root.

No both Dash and Stamp Break roots as well via
. In addition Stamp can clear roots from affected Allies as well.

I wish they granted some sort of immunity too, like "remove all movement impairing effects and make you immune to them for 3 seconds" or something. It's awesome to have to
click off
Dash or Stampeding Roar in order to break the 2nd root (assuming trinket is down or you'd rather save it for stun/fear).
The real solution is to re-roll Balance or Resto, and wait for Blizzard to wake up.

Well balance isn't really doing that great in pvp I hear ...

I know someone will disagree with you on that. Curly seems to be doing just fine, from what I heard.
That said... I got nothing. Blizzard said they are moving away from hard-counters, which is the reason they nerfed Ferals like they did, but instead of Ferals doing awesome against frost mages, frost mages are now facerolling Ferals. *shrug* But then again, I've never heard of ranged classes having serious issues with Frost Mages... Not claiming the current balance between the classes and specs are fair, just saying that Frost Mages aren't exactly kings in PvP. This isn't something I know from personal experience, but something I have observed by looking at the general discussions on the different classes in PvP.

I am certainly enjoying quite a bit of success in BGs, but I can't personally speak for arena from about mid last season until present. I play a holy pally with a feral teammate for arenas.
BG wise you just need to realize that your best bet is to be in the back of the group and stay with that group. Think penguins vs whales here, hide in the group and make friends with healers.
In arena you need a
control
partner such as a Sub Rogue. Specifically one who understands that THEY are not the one who is intended to kill the the other team, but that the boomkin is. Use CC aggressively and you can shut down half the opposing team while producing fairly significant burst damage. The biggest thing a control partner allows is the ability to hard cast, which is a tremendous boon.
Edit: I want to add a note about frost mages. Blizz has said it time and again, they do not favor them. I find this to be VERY true. Before you freak out, I want to point a few things out that can cause a difference of opinion on the matter.
The learning curve to be a decent frost mage is fairly small. Nothing against them but they enjoy a certain amount of success and unfair negative focus as a result. It's a mixed bag.
The learning curve for balance/feral is significantly steeper. As is the reliance upon teammates to execute attacks.
Once you get into the very top end of the PvP skill set, Frost Mages are no longer a "hard counter" towards Ferals. This comes from a few directions but primarily the frost mage will have significantly less uptime on a feral due to the ferals partner applying pressure OR the need for the frost mage to spread what he has to bear around.
None of the above means that mages are for noobs and ferals for the best. None of the above says mages are favored by blizz.
Blizz balances around 3v3 arena and is now branching into RBGs for balancing factors. What you should draw from this statement is that Blizz expects you to NOT BE ALONE. So don't be :P
There is no existing hard counter that
cannot
be traced back to relative skill disparity.

My bad. I didn't know they balanced it around 3v3. In that case, I suppose it makes sense, if they go by the logic that a standard setup consists of CC+Heal+DPS. In a setup like that, a frost mage is simply a CC'er I suppose. Heh, first time I've had it explained in a way that made frost mages seem on par with everyone else in PvP :P

IMO this was just as true when we could shift out of roots. Our root-breaking ability was most definitely not a hard counter to anything (at least not one that was couldn't be traced back to skill disparity), and definitely didn't deserve to be nerfed by that line of reasoning.
I tend to agree with you, most of the "frost mages are too hard" business is just people getting outplayed -- and believe me, I know something about getting outplayed. But I couldn't tell if you were simply defending Frost mages, or Blizzard, or actually trying to justify the root-breaking nerf on hard-counter grounds.

Why would they trinket out of Cyclone? That's like giving them a free 6 second iceblock, deadening the effect of your earlier rip. Or is it still hoping that he's doing it without thinking?

I think the general consensus is, "Hope they're stupid."

Mostly just clearing the air about the issue. Were kitties too powerful? yes. Was the nerf too much? yes. My only argument is that feral is not broken by any means, just at a disadvantage in the learning curve department. Could we use some love? By all means but it needs to be in the area of making our abilities flow better instead of always having to play just right or you miss out.

At least our damage-output is far better now, than the immediate post-nerf situation. I can't imagine damage output being on equal footing with a free root&snare breaker, but it's
something
at least :/

Don't forget to Rejuv or Nourish yourself (assuming nobody is healing you).
