Personly I have found it to be little more attractive to keep the ole boy on assist only unless I dont want him attacking at all. The defensive stance is pointless for sure since the new assist stance is what defensive was. I hate the old agressive stance since would cause me more problems than help. Just my two cents.

I use it because they altered how Defensive Stance works as well.
*shrug* At least it's harder for my pet to die on Ahune.

I've just gone back to leaving my pets on Passive and using my trusty pet attack target macro'd into my Serpent Sting and Multi-Shot, I've had waaaaaay too many problems with my pets to trust another Blizz fix. They go where I want them this way without all the nasty trying to kill the boss while we buff up problems/bugs of the past. It also solves the "hunter pet pulled" problem in randoms.

Meh. I haven't had problems.

No problems here either. My pet attacks what I attack, so the stance does its job. There are a few fights where you want your pet on another target than yours (last boss BRC when you're kiting), but that's what passive + manual targetting is for.

after 4.2:
Assist will attack anything the hunter attacks but won't switch to something that attacks the Hunter.
Defensive will attack anything that attacks the Hunter or the pet but will just sit there otherwise.
Right, thanks for the clarification. To be honest, the new mechanics is just plain dumb, as you say, defensive is completely useless now.
I'm just gonna stick with my pet at passive at all time, and rather tell the pet what to attack.
I doubt that will happen though... I'm sure part of why they removed Aggresive is for all the Pet classes (Warlocks, Mages and DKs too!) that would leave it on for PvE and wipe the group.
Quite likely.
I bet the next thing they "fix" is preventing the pet from growling at targets that are attacking a tank.
Nothing to read here Blizzard, move along!
Lol, if Growl is a problem you should see Voidwalker...it has a taunt.

Yes, I want Attack back if something has to go for Assist to be there then let it be Defensive or Passive!

Can't the devs just make a stance where your pet will attack any mobs that you are in combat with, giving preference to the mob you're attacking
because it's so hard to bind a pet assist + pet attack macro to a mouse wheel, and just scroll it once if a pet won't switch targets fast enough, we'd rather wait until the devs do something about it. Q_Q.

I hate assist more and more each day.
The delay in the target switch is annoying, but what really annoys me is if I switch target to scatter/wyvern sting something and then switch back, the pet does the same about two seconds later.
I'd like it if it made the pet switch as soon as I switch targets and if you send it to attack something manually, then it should stay on that target. I doubt any of this will happen though, since it's "working as intended".
I'll be keeping my pet on defensive and just not bother with using the pet on AoE and sending it manually otherwise.

It's pretty obvious to me that nobody at Blizz playes a Hunter ... Defensive is useless and I consider it just another Hunter nerf by Blizz. I suspect that Aggressive was removed to further satisfy Blizz's
favoritism of Rogues.
LOL
This made me chuckle. Nerfed CC, nerfed burst damage, mediocre raid damage, very mediocre raid buff, fragile melee DPS, yeah, favorite class alright. I think you meant to say Paladin.
PS: I think the new stances are a pain in my butt and really aren't all that well thought out. Oh well, just one more keybind to add.
