Seriously though, this isn't the first time a fixed-point has been violated, Jack Harkness is supposedly a fixed point in time after The Parting of the Ways,
but he still dies in the year 5,000,000,053 in Gridlock
.
Or so we
think
- if I'm thinking about the correct episode, the Doctor (and Martha, was it?) leaves rather hastily after the Face's supposed death. What we
might
have seen is Jack's regenerative abilities taking longer and longer to bring him back to life the older he gets. It might take him a day, or a week, or a year, to regenerate in the year 5 Billion.

Assuming the Face of Boe
is
Jack. I though that was still speculative.

They have specifically refused to confirm or deny it. I like the idea because the whole idea of the Doctor being something of a mentor and hero to the young Jack makes a great juxtaposition to the role the Face of Boe takes as the wise old man whom the Doctor respects and admires.

Meh. I err on the side of caution.

I had always assumed that the way Jack's immortality works was that time was keeping him alive so that he could die at that exact moment in Gridlock. In other words, he's a fixed point in time because he
has
to save humanity. He
has
to tell the Doctor his final words.
'The Waters of Mars',That episode had a big impact on me. I felt the ending was justified. The Doctor needed to learn he isn't a God. He can't muck around with time however he pleases. Perhaps this last episode was River's eye opening moment.

Or perhaps not. The Doctor cheated and she knows it.

Of course he cheated. He wouldn't be the Doctor if he didn't cheat!

Which rule is that?

Also possible. But did the TARDIS not "reject" him just before the events of Utopia, leaving him uh... hanging outside, in the time vortex? While we may never know, I personally don't think the TARDIS would have reacted like that if he was set to die eventually. But again, we'll probably never find out.

The TARDIS probably just freaked out. Like getting a spider on your person, so you shake to get it off. She didn't do that later on when Jack was on board. She either didn't realize it was Jack at first, or did it specifically because she knew she was already going to do it. I don't see any other reason why the TARDIS reacted like that.

I had the greatest idea last night while lying in bed trying and failing to sleep: I want to get one of my Doctor Who fan friends pretty drunk, then see if I can draw black tally marks on their arms without them noticing. I wonder how much they'd freak out when they looked down and saw them.

And I can pick up a tire iron and 'forget' I had it, etc. It would be amazing.
