Aye both dwarf songs were out of the book. I thought the actor who played Bilbo was really good. Bilbo has always been one of my favorite characters by Tolkien, unlike Frodo he had actual character development. Everybody always makes such a big deal about how strong Frodo was to be the ring bearer in LOTR, but people forget he didn't really let go of it in the end, he tried to keep it and it fell into the laval when Gollum attacked him. Bilbo on the other hand managed to let it go after having it 60 times longer than Frodo. I really didn't like the way the LOTR movies played him as this demented old man, he had a bigger heart than any character Tolkien ever made.

I actually rewatched it and I noticed two things I didn't notice before: the dragon kite before Smaurg attacks and what looks like a plastic bag on the mountain pass.
Plus I think the rock elementals fighting on the mountain pass was really quite beautiful.
Oh and I just saw signs for "
Safety Not Guaranteed
", lol. Not released here yet afaik. Wonder how long until "one weakness" or "lol, internet" become movies.

Watched Hobbit. Enjoyed it...though I almost feel it may have dragged on a little too long ;o.

D'jango may have been the best movie I've seen this year. This was easily better than Inglorious Basterds, Tarantino at his best. Really love seeing Christoph Waltz and Quentin Tarantino back together, they really do make a great team. The entire cast though was really great.
The movie had this perfect blend of laughs and action, and then it will seamlessly change to a super tense scene that has you on the edge of your seat, and of course buckets of blood.

On topic of Hobbit: Padding was there, sure. But most of it (except Frodo bit) serves to establish what the hell is going on for those who never read books, and it does it's job better than original trilogy.
Btw: Can someone explain how Gollum pretty much did not change over 60 years without ring while Bilbo aged rather rapidly after he gave away ring?
Gollum had the ring for 500 years, it probably had a lasting effect on him.

And of course, Gollum/Smeagal was a proto-Hobbit, so probably some type of elven blood in there too to let him live so long.

From what I remember of the books Smeagal was just classified as one of the river folk. Hobbit like, but their own race all together.
Also I really liked The Last Stand, had all the hallmarks of a classic Arnold movie, with a little of the old timer vibe mixed in.

Any thoughts about Looper?

Well, watched Frankenweenie and Paranorman....and was very pleasantly surprised; both of them are excellent movies and I plan to add them to my Hallowe'en rotation from here on in. About to watch Hotel Transylvania and I loved the original stop motion movie so fingers crossed.

Watched Oz the Great and Powerful last night....dear god, what an amazing movie. I absolutely loved it, and loved the throw back/reference to the original movie.

It was a good movie, but not the best I've ever seen.

The new Star Trek is really good! I liked it even better than the last one. Zach Quinto was great as Spock, and I really liked the guy they got to play Khan as well.
