So i watched John Carter this weekend and though i haven't read the books...yet =D. I definitely liked the movie. It was alittle slow moving at times but for the most part it was pretty good. The action scenes weren't great but weren't terrible either. The storyline was good and the acting was decent. How accurately it portrays the books i'm not sure, but i did see it in 3D. Even though i hate 3D movies i'll admit this one was done non-cheesyily. The 3D was much more subtle and not the "omg a rock is flying towards us" type of 3D.
I also watched the Immortals and i'll admit i'm not huge on greek mythology so i'm not sure how well this follows greek mythology. What i will say is the action scenes and the visuals were awesome. They definitely did a great job with the bullet time scenes. For those of you that are burnt out on bullet time this movie will make you love it again. They apply the bullet time portions at just the right times. Some people may be alittle turned off by the gods though. They kind of look like taylor laurent with gold armor or togas on. once you get past that their frickin cool when they fight.

But I thought it was an excellent movie heh.

The answer is....doesn't follow mythology at all. And I hated Immortals; cliched, knew exactly what was going to happen, no real surprises....just like the 300. I also found the effects in it meh.

The 30s and 40s have a higher concentration of (non-documentary) movies that I really enjoyed than any other. The Life of Emile Zola, How Green Was My Valley, It Happened One Night, Can't Take it With You, The Lost Weekend, Casablanca, It's a Wonderful Life... My three favourite non-documentary films are from the 60s though.

Huh, just caught the Maltese Falcon. Definitely ranks up there with the other movies I listed (I remember reading a book called the Malteaser Falcon when I was a kid, this puts it in context).
I couldn't help thinking though...
Bogart should have let the British guy off to go adventuring, just for the fun of it and the possibility of a sequel. He'd still have his fall gal...

I agree, the movie doesn't get that good until they head into the capital and get ready for the games to begin. And unless you read the book and know what's going on, you may end up a little lost. The 2 or3 flashbacks they use, such as the one with Peeta throwing Katniss that loaf of bread, doesn't really give much back story. Until Peeta talks about it that is.

I thought it was weird that they didn't have younger actors for Peeta and Katniss at that point. They were both supposed to be like 11 in that flashback. But I guess the budget was relatively small.

Yeah that happened while they were younger I believe. But it would have just been easier to use the one actor/actress instead of trying to find a younger looking person for just one scene. I noticed that happens in some movies, and its not just because of money but what may be the easiest.

I think that may have been to keep things ambiguous. At first I thought she was starving and that he ignored her, then I thought he was being cruel by throwing bread that wasn't fit to eat. Then I realised he did it out of compassion.

And because he was already in love with her at that point.

So...on an Astro Boy kick today; watched the CGI Astro Boy, and I still think it's one of the better movie adaptions out there of a tv series....plus, the President of Metro City is just hilarious even as the 'bad' guy.

I just got back from seeing American Reunion, and it was the funniest movie I have seen in a while. Today it can really be easy to get worn down by all the raunchy comedys that use shock value for humor (like pretty much every American Pie film that came after American Wedding) and like all the other movies in the series this had a lot of that, but just like the original three it still has a lot of heart.
I am so glad they got the original cast back together to give this great film series a proper send off, and I hope they never again make another half assed sequel about Stiflers distant relatives. It was agreat nastalgia film, and even though it used a lot of the jokes that weve seen over and over in the past movies (for example the first scene of the film has Jims kid catching him masterbaiting and leads to him injuring his penis) they still manage to keep it fresh.
This was the first comedy I had been to in a while where every single person in the theator was laughing out loud at almost every joke. As somebody who grew up in the 90s this movie brought back a lot of nice memories, and it still had plenty of modern cultural references (Stifler using Twilight to hit on high school girls)
Ok long winded review done, TLDR I know American Pie isnt for everybody, but fans of the original will absolutley love this movie.
EDIT: Also I have to say Sean William Scott is a great actor, its a shame we dont see him around Hollywood much latley. All of Stiflers scenes had me cracking up, the part where he took a dump in tha annoying preppy kids cooler had me dying.

So, I'm watching Green Lantern and I don't get why they bother testing planes against drones. No-one's air force comes close to matching the US one, so why would drones need to be competitive? They just need to drop bombs on stuff.

Anyone else see The Raid: Redemption?
I saw it recently and thought it was pretty awesome. Lots of yelling and cheering from the audience. Didn't actually hear any advertising about it before it came out, but it seems to have picked up in popularity and I actually heard a radio ad the other day. The film is Indonesian, so be prepared to read subtitles unless you understand the language. It's an action packed martial arts movie - which I happen to love. ^_^
Speaking of, here's a list of some of my other favs:
Old Boy
Ong Bak
Ip Man
Chocolate
Hero
Fist of Legend
..etc.

Because the Drones had basic AI programs, and they wanted to make them better by fighting against the targets they are going to be sent against.
So....MIB3 is coming out...and it's about Time travel....what, did they go through the MIB cartoon and just picked the episode they liked the best out of there lol?
