I just think it's shocking that FF9 ranks above FF8...

Heh I don't; so many people complained about 8 and still complain about it. But 9 was the best Final Fantasy game on the PS; used the full power of it's system to make one of the most beautiful games.

FFXIII-2 went down on Friday night. Foreshadowed parts of the ending, but it's still a pretty stupid one, all things considered. Even my girlfriend is tempted to go for 100% completion to get the 'secret ending', in the hopes that it'll redeem the game a bit in our eyes.

100% helps...but you do have to wait for DLC for the rest of it to be completely explained.

And some of the Paradox Endings are happily ever afters! Shame they're not canon, though. Also, don't forget that there's probably going to be a FF XIII-3, which I'd imagine involves Lightning or Serah becoming the new Etro or resurrecting her, so don't think it's all over! May be a good or bad thing, depending on your opinion. :P

Lol, off the Lying Creator page on TVTropes:In the lead up to the release of Final Fantasy XIII-2, Motomu Toriyama said in several interviews that the game had to do with Lightning finding true happiness. The game ends with Serah dead, Lightning a statue, the Big Bad taking over the world, and a "To Be Continued" screen.Heh, right Toryiama...Riiiiiiiiiiight.

Arguably, the game *does* have to do with that. Well, Serah, anyway.

I know it's going to get cleared up in the DLC and the next part but still...that's a hell of way thing to do to fans.

So much for sleep, you ;)
Edit on topic: As much as I dislike the ending, I can't really criticise them too much for it - it's about time we had an ending like that.(##RESPBREAK##)8##DELIM##Squishalot##DELIM##

Going to bed now.
And I agree; after all, if all of the parts ended 'happily', there wouldn't be much point of making sequels... I mean, look at the FF7 universe compilation: 7 ends on semi-high note as the world wasn't destroyed...but Cloud still lost his first love and the world was still a crap hole. Advent Children at least finally gave Cloud his happy place(hehehe between Tifa's boobs) and showed the world was going to recover. And Dirge of Cerberus was about giving Vincent closure...and as the most @#$%ed up character in the verse, beating out Sephiroth for pure crap that happened, it was nice to see. Now, we just wait for the next game to find out the finale, as all of the plot threads from all three games are meant to be tied up.

From the current question of the day thread:
I'd rather FFX out of the 2, X-2 didnt feel like a proper sequel to me, there was too much different about it.
I honestly liked X-2 a lot more; the Garment Spheres were fun, and while the story wasn't as deep as X, it didn't drag along like X did constantly....and again: No Tidus.
You're just saying that for the fanservice :P
Tidus wasn't the greatest protagonist, but then again, I didn't really like Zidane, so horses for courses. A lot of people didn't like Squall, but I think he was probably the most balanced.
Back on topic, I'm really looking forward to the new SimCity remake.
I didn't really mind Tidus, then again i was only 12 or 13 when i played it. story is the most important part for me in games. I also liked messing with the sphere grid, my Yuna did more physical damage that Auron and Tidus, Wakka was my healer. I missed having 10 characters to switch in and out.
The one thing I liked about X-2 was the new game plus.
I admit I loved the Fanservice, but over all, I found X-2 to be the better game. And yeah, any more discussion can happen in the FF Poll/Discussion thread.
You don't like tidus but you adore Cloud? where's the logic in that?
True enough Tidus starts as a really whiny guy but at the very least he shows some impressive character development AND DOESN'T REVERTS BACK. Cloud? starts as an emo whiner jerkass, starts to change, then reverses back. And that's not even going into how ridiculus his weapon is
To quote Statler and Waldorf on their comment in absurdly big swords:
Waldorf: Why do you think those HUGE swords show up in so many video games?
Statler: I think the developers must be Compensating for Something.
Waldorf: A low budget?
Statler: No, a lousy game!
Both: Do-ho-ho-ho-hoh!
Squall is also a very nice character because he starts just like cloud, an anti-social jerkass, that *GASP* actually matures into a responsible leader, and a good friend O_o
I also liked the superb job done by Tidus's actor, because at the start of the game, (AKA when tidus is an insufferable whiner) his voice is really annoying (I'll give you that, during 2/3rds of the game it really was getting on my nerves) but as his character develops, so does his voice.
Hell, the segments that are narrated by Tidus, sound a lot more mature than the segments voiced by tidus. At the end of the game, he is quite a nice character. Though IMO my 2 favorite FF characters have to be Squall and Celes of course.
Squish did say Squall not Cloud lol. But honestly, I'm still a fan of him, as Compilation goes through and does show you everything that happens to Cloud and Vincent: They are very @#$%ed up individuals, but the sheer amount of stuff that happens to them causes all of that.
Just a run down:
Vincent Valentine:
Worked for the corrupt company, lost the love of his life, saw her sealed away for all eternity within Materia, then was horribly experimented on and locked up for 10 years...and as if that wasn't bad enough, turns out the monsters they put in him were eating his soul and he wasn't the only one this happened to. When he finally frees himself, he watches as people he cared about die for him.
Cloud:
Hell, there's just two much so cliff notes: Family home destroyed, first love nearly killed by personal hero, best friend horribly injured by personal hero, experimented on and turned nearly brain dead, see his best friend get gunned down, loses his marbles and thinks he's his best friend, has his next love brutally killed, loses himself completely, is forced to come to term with his memories, see nearly the end of the world as he knows it, stops his Hero....then 2 years later, all that experimenting comes back to haunt him as he develops a deadly disease and faces off against three failed experiments who were meant to be the Hero.
Trauma Conga Line at it's best.
But as Tidus: Do you know I take sadistic pleasure in beating the ever loving crap out of him in Dissidia? I enjoy it, for all of the crap I had to listen to from him all through X. The game honestly would have been a thousand times better without Tidus and the Love story. That's really why I prefer X-2; I enjoyed seeing Yuna blossom out of the Summoner we saw her as in the first game.
That's not to say I have an issue with the FF love stories; I really don't, as long as they are done well. Squall and Rinoa, Zidane and Dagger/Garnet, even Vaan and Penello; those were the good ones. Yuna and Tidus? Sorry but that's the one I hate the most.

Unrelated side note - I'm about 20 monsters from 100% completion in FFXIII-2. Damn that was painful.

Again, but his status Quo doesn't change.
Here's how to NOT do a story:
Have a character, inflict as much pain and trauma to him as you can, have him become a jerk. And have him stay a jerk.
Here's how to DO a story:
Have a chracter, inflict as much pain and trauma to him as you can, have him become a jerk. And have him work out his issues along the way, overcoming his trauma, and *GASP* receiving character development.
Static characters are boring characters, change needs to set in to move the story forward. Like how Yuna goes from "
Yamato Nadeshiko
" summoner, to a true free spirit, saying "screw destiny, and screw the government too" on the way. How Tidus stops being a sobbing whiny brat, and actually does more and more selfless stuff on his story, eventually sacrificing his life so spira can be free. Knowing full well he'll cease to exist, he still fights on for the woman he loves.
How Squall is an anti-social jerk, and a loner, yet at the end of his game, he's a natural born leader, a good friend, and a loyal companion.
How Locke works out his issues with not being able to save his girlfriend, how Celes becomes less robotic and accepts her humanity, hell I could provide dozens of examples of characters who start as A yet end up as B.
Cloud is an A, and remains an A. That's just not right.
even Vaan and Penello
o_O wait, there was a love context between those 2? because if there was one, I never saw it. All I saw was them arguing and bickering like kids (well, they are kids, so I wont hold that against them xD).
Did that happened on the Revenant Wings game?
Post by
Adamsm
By the end of Advent Children he is a complete person.
And yes, in Revenant Wings they are an official couple. Lol, yeah the love context was always there, in how the two dealt with each other; look how Vaan reacted with the whole Larsa thing.

I think out of 7-8-9 that Squall is the best main character because he's actually relatable.
Main point being he's a normal (for the world he's on) human.

Arguably, that's why FF7, as a game in and of its own right, without the rest that they created afterwards, falls over a little bit in the protagonist stakes. If you're going to call Advent Children part of FF7, you have to join FFX-2 and FFX as well.

And the end of FF8 with the beginning, which is the end.
OR IS IT?
Nobody actually knows, it's a mind!@#$

And as I've said: I like pretty much everyone but Tidus in the FFX universe; out of all of the FF heroes, he's the most irritating one to me.
