I've bought a thing or two online from companies or ebay that
sell you the World of Warcraft TCG WoW Trading Card Game items. That stuff is all in game and obviously on the up and up.
But whats the deal with the websites, sure you've seen them that sell you or gear / whatever from
them online with paypal and then they mail to you in game?
Is that a getting kicked out game thing sort of thing like buying gold?
Some of the sites are so detailed it makes it seem like blizzard must be aware?
A guess in a nutshell my question - is buying items the same offense as buying gold?
thx

Yes and no. TCG Trading Card Items can be bought with money off ebay. That said. I would not even go to any site that sells gold or sells items. You are just asking for your account to be hacked.

Or a ban if it's a legit gold site: Blizzard doesn't look kindly on those who buy gold.

I'm thinking you're talking about those people who sell BoEs in trade if you pay through a website that are obviously also gold sellers. Buying from them is against ToS, I think, as you are supporting them and their against ToS role in the economy.
In fact, I think real life money for anything in game (with the exception of TCG) is against ToS.(##RESPBREAK##)2##DELIM##Ashelia##DELIM##

I know buying gold is taboo , bad news. But there are people out there selling just gear and that's what I'm wondering?
Is buying gear the same offense as buying gold?
thx

Blizzard are fine with you buying TCG Loot Cards with real money becuase you are buying a physical object with real money. They are fine with you buying TCG loot card in-game items with in-game currency (in most cases gold) because you are exchanging virtual money for virtual goods.
It is when you are trading real life money/items for virtual money/items (and vice versa) that they have a problem with it.

Yeah that's what I thought. Think I just had to work that question out of my system.
Been grinding to long for an item with no end yet in sight. lol
thx :-)

Selling gold is bad because you are paying (someone other than Blizzard) real currency for virtual items. By the same rules, buying gear is bad too.

Blizzard owns all the virtual items in the game. In contrast, Blizzard does not own the TCG loot card.

real money for real item = fine (ie real money for real card or the code off card)
fake money for fake item = fine (ie buying a BoE with gold)
real money for fake item = bad (buying gold or buying boe or buying runs through raids with real money)
fake money for real items = ? (not sure what blizz's stance would be if people agreed to say...trade a wow figurine for XX ingame gold...probably a "if they screw you over you're just screwed" stance)

Bad.
The prime example is someone buying a WoW Game Card for 5000 gold. This would be against the rules. The reason is because look at the reverse; The guy selling the WoW Game Card ($15) is essentially buying 5000g for 15 dollars, which we KNOW is against the rules.
(That said, I've seen a kid in my guild buy a game card off another guy in my guild because he didn't have a credit card. Little "under the table" transactions like this are somewhat common I imagine, but are in no way condoned and are still against the rules.)

So.. last night I paid 6k gold for a 30 day game card. It seemed legit.. The guy let me use the code first and it said I had game time until May 5. I just tried to log in and it says my time is expired. Now I know as long as you trade GOLD for game cards its not against the ToS because I am not using real life money for game items or services right? I asked a few guildies before I did this and read the ToS and thats how I understand it.
I emailed blizzard but they are closed until 8am PDT so im kinda pissed now.

Not right. It is against ToS. You can not trade Gold for game time, game cards, or cash. Those three items are equivalent.
If you bought game time off someone for 6k, and he scammed you, then you are SoL. Go ahead and petition Blizzard and tell them that you bought game time for gold though; enjoy your ban.

Real life currency = real life goods
In-game currency = in-game goods.
The reason TCG items are allowed to be sold for real money is you're actually buying the card/code. If someone redeems the code and then sells the item in game (since they're now BoE), then it's sold for gold because it's in-game.
Game-time is a real life good, can't be sold for gold (contrary to some people's beliefs)
Gear, BoE or not, is an in-game good, can't be sold for real money.
One interesting off-shoot: You can sell a name for gold (pretty sure that was confirmed as a possible scam situation, but technically allowed via blue, but I could be wrong). A name is an in-game good.
A character is really both (actual character and the licence that goes with). Technically a character can't be sold for anything because it isn't yours to sell.
Edit: Since someone else brought it up: Buying a figurine (or a code, say for a Pet Store/Mount Store item or even a TCG code) with gold would technically be against the rules.

I didnt use real life currency I just used gold. At the very least I would want them to take the 6k away from the guy. I dont really require it back.. and I dont think I will banned. At the most maybe suspended.

Is there such a thing as a "Legit" gold site? A contradiction in terms, surely?
That is kinda true. From what I've heard from a couple of friends of mine, they don't hack every single account they sell gold to sometimes. Occasionally, they let "regular" buyers go on their merry way.
