I think the person in that might be Mormon. We have
CTR rings
that some of us wear (I used to have one, and was going to buy another after mine was stolen, then decided I didn't need to wear a symbol).
Especially with the whole polygamy thing with Warren Jeffs... I wouldn't be surprised.

Also why there's "It is a sect that many other Christians do not consider to be Christian, and there is a fair bit of prejudice towards us." and "never smoked or drank in her life". :)

It ^&*!ing sucks, when your mother sees no difference between Athiests and peadophiles, saying that I now have no morals and boundaries because only religion can give that to you...That sucks... :\
And I thought you were Muslim?
I was; but for the last four months I've been doubting my faith seriously for the first time and its just been whittled away since then.
Do what you believe is right. Or you will never forgive yourself. (It's sounds pretty dramatic, but it's true.)
"I believe in morality - doing what's right, regardless of what I'm told - rather than in religion - doing what I'm told, regardless of what's right." - Unknown Facebook user
I wish I could find the original respondent so I could attribute the quote to her correctly, but it was on Facebook and I can't locate it now.

I'm very sorry to hear that mate. As said, do what you feel is right, regardless of what others think or say about it. I sincerely hope you can make your mother understand, but in truth, if she associates atheism with pedophiles and lack of morals, I think (no offense) your chances might be slim.
Saying that religion is the only source of morals in the world is a very ignorant thing to say, too.
Word of advice; don't try to force belief upon yourself to please others. In the end, it won't work anyway.

There's quite a bit of difference between the Quran and the Bible, enough to spawn to very different religions.

I've got your back though. I went through the same thing, and because I didn't have anyone to help me, I crashed into a terrible depression. My parents weren't quite as harsh (they tended to blame themselves, rather than me), but I do know how it feels to have your spiritual foundation crumble beneath you.

From what I know, which actually isn't very much, Muslims do believe Jesus was the Messiah. What they don't believe is that he is a God or the son of God or anything like that.

Muslims believe that Jesus was a prophet, like Mohammed, revealing Allah's divine will to the people of that time in a form that they would understand and accept, but I don't think they consider Jesus a messiah. They may also believe that Mohammed was not the last prophet that would arise, but I'm not 100% certain of that; I may be confusing Judaism and Islam.

the first sentence which sites the Oxford Encyclopedia as its source. It's wikipedia but it seems reasonable to me, perhaps one of the Muslims in this thread would care to clarify, I don't mean to demean if I'm mistaken.

Awesome, thanks. I haven't really done any reading of the Qur'an in, oh, five years probably.

Jesus is considered to have been a Muslim (i.e., one who submits to the will of God),..
Does that mean I am a muslim?Islam did not come into being until 700 years after Jesus died. If you go by the literal definition, then you could say that he was a "muslim," but that would also apply to 80% of the Earth's inhabitants. Instead, the word "muslim" is used to specify an adherent of Islam, which didn't exist when Jesus was around.

I know this sounds pretentious, but I was born into probably the perfect family when it comes to this issue. My parents answered any questions I ever had about any religion fairly and honestly and even took me to a christian Sunday service a couple times because I asked them to.
