Looking to Purchase DCUO - Would Like Some insight

So lately my gaming regiment has been WoW, Torchlight, Diablo 2, Dragon Age and Magic: The Gathering Online... The fantasy genre is simply killing me now.
To break the cycle I've been juggling the decision for a new time sink between Halo Reach (Enjoyed Halo 3... mostly), Fallout 3 (Never gave it a real chance the first time around) or DC Universe Online. I finally decided I wanted to take the DCUO route, especially with a child rapidly on its way, it would be nice to have a go-to game for my impending and involuntary all-nighters.
I am reluctant to drop $50 on a game I've never played before, especially one being published by SOE. I love the lore and I love the idea of an action MMO and everything about the game seems appealing to me, but I have my doubts. My biggest concern is that I'll lose interest too quickly. I understand the level cap is 30, and that it is reached very quickly. Assuming my biggest fear is not having enough to do in the game, I was wondering if anyone here who's spent a decent amount of time with it could share their opinions with me. I guess, basically, is it worth the bucks?
