Other than that, the game does absolutely nothing that you can't find in World of Warcraft. There's no reason to play it over this one.Other then personal preference of course.

I like apples over oranges, bananas over kiwis, Pepsi over Coke and Cool Ranch Doritos over Nacho Cheese Doritos.
I also prefer WoW to Rift.
But my opinion matters not. Only the opinion of the one playing truly matters.
No one here is right or wrong on the issue. It's kind of how preferences work...
How about bananas and kiwis..together? Cut them up into small chunks and they are delicious together. And no, that's not a metaphor for playing both WoW and Rift in little chunks of time. Unless you want it to be a metaphor, then it is. But really it's not, because those two fruits are delicious together.

To be quite frank, you're on a WoW forum, so it'll be quite a bit in WoW's favor.
But I do agree. I've looked quite a bit into Rift, and though I cannot say whether or not it truly is better, as I have never played it, the interface, zones, quests, and, well... everything seemed like it was trying to cash in on what WoW was years ago.
Aside from the rifts that add a bit of excitement every now and then, I couldn't see myself ever finding it to make a game. It's the same concept with Aion's portals that showed up randomly, only with NPC's instead of other players.
Just my two cents.

Where's the option for both?
Honestly, I don't want to fuel Rift vs. WoW debates, but I will say a lot of my WoW friends are enjoying Rift when we're not logging hours in WoW. It's actually pretty different from WoW once you get into playing it--not in a better or worse way, just different. It's been fun trying out a new game and I'm not regretting the purchase.
I think you can play both and be loyal to WoW still. I don't think Rift is by any means a fabled WoW killer, but I do think it's a good time and a good alternative for some folks =)(##RESPBREAK##)2##DELIM##Ashelia##DELIM##

I prefer Rift.
Question for you, if I may:
What's the graphics load like?
I haven't gone near Rift mainly because there is no Trial account yet, and the images I've seen have been nice, but I've seen no videos outside of the official site.
Do you need a strong rig to run high settings?
Are there FPS heavy instances when questing? (Think AOE heavy graphics type dealie)
I keep hearing so much about the character spec depth, and it intrigues me...
The character spec depth is superficial. It's very easy to figure out what specs are the best, much like WoW pre-Cata. It's mostly the "oh, I'm obviously taking that" filler talents. Certain souls within each class are obviously better than others. Certain classes are woefully underpowered at lvl 50 compared to others. It's not just "we need to tweak things a little" imbalanced. It's "well we don't really need mages because under no circumstance will they be a benefit to the group" type of imbalanced. The imbalance is bad enough that it should never have made it to live servers.
That being said, Trion is responsive and they are at least trying. Just don't ever expect the polish of WoW. There will always be imbalance, there will always be a best spec, and the content at end game will be severely lacking compared to WoW. In other words, it's just like every other game that has tried to compete with WoW. And don't anyone try to say they aren't trying to compete with WoW. They copied pre-Cata WoW in a number of different ways and will rely on subscriptions from former/current-WoW players.
As for your graphics question, the requirements are certainly higher than WoW. The graphics are great for an MMO...if you can run them fairly high. You will absolutely need to have AA on. They give you a choice of edge-smoothing or supersampling (I believe that's what they call it). I would go as far as to say that the game, for me, would be unplayable without supersampling. Anyhow, I am only using a GTX460 and I have custom settings between high and ultra, so it's not horribly demanding, but I am only at 30-40 FPS (whereas I don't drop below 60-70 with maxed everything in WoW in even the most crowded areas and otherwise I am well over 100).

It did, actually. Quite a lot, in fact. That's why it did so well to begin with. We had mainly server issues and lag. Some bugs, but mechanically, at its core, the game was extremely well made and ran fantastically on most computers.
Aye.... but there are still bugs, six years later. Again, saying that a game, which has only been active for a few months, somehow means it 'sucks massively' compared to WoW which has existed for 6 years, is just being silly.
Again, it's all personal preference here; quite a few of the more focal RIFT insulters I've seen, haven't actually played the game at this point lol; but meh, if the guy wants to play RIFT let him play the game.

To give this better context: I don't ever to expect this game to even come close to the number of subscribers that WoW has. Under no circumstances am I making a judgement on the game, but it's simply a fact that fewer subscribers means fewer dollars means less polish.
Objectively, WoW is a better game, in large part because it has been around so long. Subjectively, there are a lot of people that will like Rift better, enough that it should be around for awhile, but I never expect the game to step out of WoW's shadow. By that I mean that Rift will likely never have a steady subscriber base of more than half a million players. That doesn't mean they can't find success somewhere below that number. It does mean they will never have the cash to match the polish of WoW.

Hello Kitty Online
I cannot but support the very concept of this!
On a serious note...
Pairing anything "vs." WoW is like throwing a puppy into a pit full of crocodiles and expecting some new croc purses outta it. WoW is a monstrosity and with cataclysm out...well,lets just say that for the time being we won't see any game taking it's measure.
But honestly...as some have already said,if you like Rift too,why not both.
