Just looked it up about three months ago and... well... it looks pretty damn good. But I'm still confused as to what purpose each class serves as. To add to that, I can't decide if I should get the game for Mac or Xbox...
So, being a newbie to it n all, I'm lookin for some advice
Also, I like blowing stuff up. Which class is suited for that?

Just find a server, pick a random class, and blow &*!@ up. We can't tell you what you'll enjoy most.

I'd like to remark that you should try out all classes regardless of whether you want to blow stuff up or not. For example, at the beginning I'd thought I'd never play medic, but now I really enjoy it. Just start with any, and you'll grow comfortable with it if you play long enough.
I don't know about the Xbox version, but I definitely recommend getting the one for computers; buy once and play on PC and Mac.
Erm, as for tips for new players... have great patience to learn?
Edit:
Ah, by the way, do check out the Gamer list link in my signature.

Ah I see you're a bit behind the times Elitebuster, don't worry, I'll update you.
A while back they added the concept of "hats" to the game, a way of customizing your character. Classes now are considered mere vehicles for the showing off of your hats, I recommend the Scout, he has the best speed which means you can show off your hats to the most people possible far quicker than the others.
The heavy is also a useful vehicle for your hats, although slow he can soak up damage from the people who don't use the maps as modelling runways (fools!).
Happy hathunting! :P
This. So damn much.
Congratulations on becoming a proud owner of your very own hat simulator! There are all types of hats for you to collect, trade, or purchase! (Class specific hats, promotional item hats, and hats available for all classes to wear)
But DoctorLore forgot another aspect of the game:
Paints and nametags!
(Bolded, underlined italics means its important)
You can now paint your hats, making you even more unique. Furthermore, you can name your hat with something witty or reference pop culture and add flavor text to it!
Oh and if you feel like shooting something, the opposite team is there. But don't count on your teammates to back you up as they're probably back in spawn trading Stout Shakos for 2 Refined.
But really, it's a fun game and the communities aren't that bad if you pick the right server. (the Halolz server is pretty laid-back and fun) People play parodies and comedic mic spams if you're into that kind of thing and there's no admin aboose.
Come to think of it... Wowhead, Y U NO MAKE TF2 SERVER!

People are being kind of polite with the XBox version. It's actually unplayable as I don't think it got any of the patches if I recall correctly, meaning no new items and no class updates (which are basically a large portion of the game). Do not even consider getting this game on the console.
But srsly, a thread about TF2 without Miyari commenting? This has to be fixed.

Computer version > Xbox version by far!
As to class roles: The game tells you that you have 3 offense classes (Scout, Soldier, Pyro), 3 defense classes (Demoman, Heavy, Engineer), and 3 support classes (Medic, Sniper, Scout). Of course, this doesn't mean that you're limited to that role and that role only. For example, the Heavy is great at stopping people in their tracks from capping a point or a flag (especially if they're using the newbtascha), but he can also be an unstoppable pushing force in the right situations. Don't feel like just because you play medic, you have to only heal people. Battle medic can be a viable option, but be warned that your team will hate you for not healing them.
:P
Personally, you can almost always find me on Team Interrobang's Doublecross CTF map playing sniper. Although, I've recently tried to get better at the Demoman. Feel free to add me and join me in game if you'd like.
BTW, have you watched the
Meet The Team
videos? That may help you decide what class to start with. You may also want to consider checking out the
official TF2 wikipedia
.
In the end, I don't know of anyone that's bought TF2 and regretted it. It really is a great game.

. . . horrid customer service, a monopolistic manufacturer, poor program support and overall clumsiness at times . . .
You seemed to describe Microsoft fairly well.
Seriously though, let's not turn this thread into a Microsoft vs Mac debate. My brother plays TF2 on his Mac and it runs fine.

Wow, the vids are pretty funny. The wiki site is also pretty helpful, too. Thanks!(##RESPBREAK##)136##DELIM##Queggy##DELIM##
